Today I’m tasting wines from one of the most popular brands in America, created by an American wine icon. These are every day wines that you can buy for cheap, and they’ve been saying it’s a good wine for 40 years apparently. My goal today? Find out if the wines of Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi are any good or not at all, if they’re worth the $5 price tag, is that good value or is it not even worth the money. To go further than what other wine channels do and give you as far as tasting impressions go, for each of these wines, we have the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and White Zinfandel, I’m going to tell you what I like about each of them, and the dark side, what I don’t love and more important they’re missing that a more expensive wine may have…

Cheap and almost cheerful. Actually, this sort of stuff will be cheerful for the majority of wine drinkers that habitually buy cheap wine below 10 pounds/dollars/euros. That really is most people including those who have the budget to spend more on good wine. The other thing is that you don't have to spend much more (outside the U.S.A at least) to get a genuinely good wine.
Sad to say but wine prices have rocketed in the past ten years. What was great value wine is just about decent value today. You can argue that it is what it is but it's one of the reasons why the consumption of wine has collapsed despite all the wonderful wine out there. I can guess what these wines taste like and I'm not interested but I'm not the target consumer. The wine world really needs to inject some quality at the lower end. In Spain you can get very good price/quality wine in regular shops but they are still just above the $10 euro point. When I eat out in Spain or Italy I see more beer on the table than wine. Those wines that occupied that space not long ago have doubled in price.
