Italian badge on the shirt in Paris, superb idea. Frog legs? Why? Ever seen how those animals are killed? Quiche, yes no one has it like the french.
It"s fun because I'm pretty sure that most escargots that are eaten in France are eaten by tourists in Paris?
hi, yes yes in restaurants most French people eat their pizza with a knife and fork, less at home with a delivered pizza. it's like potato fries, at restaurants with cutlery at home more often in hand, it's in the collective unconscious we don't even ask the question! except in fast food! the baguette is a real institution, there are several batches per day, the baker starts his day at 3 or 4 a.m., it is a real essential profession in France, a brittle crust with a tender crumb is anything but stale bread !
that said I hate snails, the seasoning is just parsley, garlic and butter, a base in French cooking. duck is super good specialty of the southwest, each region has its specialty, you should know that we have been influenced by 5 countries on the border and revisited in the French way. but I love Spanish and Italian cuisine.
I would not presume to tell you how to vote for but my sister who is very Conservative says "how can any woman vote for Trump"
No but we eat things with a knife and fork!!!!!!!!!
French here I don't eat pizza with fork even in a restaurant…
Yes, snails, not that bad. I was lucky to not go in a restaurant for that–was hitch-hiking in the south of France & a giuy picked me up, but before driving me where I needed to go, he insisted that I go to his farm & see how he was making wine. After the demo & tasting, his wife insisted that we stay for the evening meal, and that's what she had on the menu. I wasn't too thrilled at first, but out of respect for what they did for me, I ate everything–even spent half the evening with the family (but I'm french canadian, so not much language barrier). onion soup was amazing too, and the mom even gave me her family recipe. Croque-Monsieur, I already ate before visiting France, as I have french ancestry, it was a pretty common meal here. And if you ever go there, don't forget the mille-feuilles for dessert–amazing. Tanks and have a nice day, both of you. For baguettes–get up early and get them out of the oven at 6 a.m in a bakery.
I'm a simple woman. I see foie gras, i click.
it's not about being picky really.
i do believe that most US people have to unlearn "foods" before starting to understand that a baguette on its own can be simply fantastic.
One thing that always make me laugh is watching an american seeing paté and getting the "cat food" reaction.
Who don't use forks and knives ?
I'm from South West France, near Bordeaux, and I almost eat magret de canard (duck) every 2 weeks. Also foie gras are from different quality, depending on the price: of course if it's cheap it won't look and taste that great. Don't forget a bottle of liquoreux (very sweet white wine, like Monbazillac or Sauternes) with it!
"Foie gras ?"
" it doesn't look good" 😂
Yeah!!! Please don't buy it! We'll have more for us 😁🇫🇷
I'm originally from northern France, yes we eat pizza with a fork and knife. I now live in the UK and eat pizza with my hands.
here a frech guy and i eat my pizza, french fries, croque monsieur with my hands everywhere (when the food is do it for). Eat like you wish, you don't care about other people think about you (sorry for the faults, my english is not well)
Being a french from paris, those are tourit stuff… But thé best restaurants of thé World are in this city, you have to go around to get it
Not many french will be offended by the sentence "Paris does not have the best food in Europe", Paris is not even French Food capital, but if you go to Lyon, and say the same from Lyon, I hope for you that you run like Bolt ^^
QUICK is actually a belgian chain of burgers, and their best burger is the "Giant".
I’m 33, I ate escargots exactly one (1) time in my life. It’s really not common anymore (it’s an old-school dish).
That being said, maybe some people, maybe in burgundy or elsewhere are eating it a bit more often 🤷♂️ might depends on your taste as well 🤷♂️
For the pizza is depends. If it's a cheap Domino's one eaten while watching something, it's usually with the hands except if it's really greasy. But at a restaurant, except if you're a pig, you eat it with fork & knife. Also the escargots are well known with butter, but in other regions it's cook in a different way, and it's something which was more eaten by older generations. Also for the foie gras, visit the south west and try some small local producers's ones, it tastes so much better. Paris isn't the best place for french food, all the south west and on the other side, Lyon, are better choices.
les américain ont vraiment des gouts de doberman lol
5:42 hahahah that cracked me up becuase i swear so many americans are like that. The americans i met at uni always had these weird issues with food and would tell us about friends or sibling who were worse, we used to joke that americans were born with eating disorders. Like scoffing at like toad in the hole because of the name when its just sasuage and pastry lol, names of food mean nothing to euros i feel like.
Only later did i learn that some parents are just too overprotective which leads to increased rates of lactose intolerance and nut allergies, or that fresh food variety isnt the best in some places, we also vaccinate our animals against salmonella so food poisioning is very rare for us, personally ive never had it in my life so maybe we worry less about getting sick.
Is French cuisine the best in the world? I don't know but it's the only one that is listed as a World Heritage Site, so maybe it's for a good reason?
French here:
– Snails are amazing, and it is kind of a pesto (butter, garlic and basilic or parsley – always mix them up)
– Onion soup: you should try, even if you're not into soups
– Pizza: it depends, if you buy a pizza at a take away truck or US chain, probably with your hands, but at a restaurant no, you eat with knife and fork. For me I usually prefer with knife and fork, especially if it's too oily / dripping)
– Yeah, if you come to France you have to try everything and forget everything you think you know about food, and how food should be done, should taste or should be combined together… but you will be mind blown! And I would LOVE for you guys to go and visit 🙂
– Crepes… I always find it weird, yeah lots of people from Britanny for some reason end up in Paris, but this feels too much like a scam, if you want crepes, go to Britanny ahah.
– Duck! Yes, one of the best meats ever, with lamb and horse 🙂
– Foie Gras — Safety advice! Never EVER call this a 'pâté' in France… you could be killed ahah (and yes, this is the most exquisite food in the world, I could go vegetarian, but I could never let go of Foie Gras :P)
And last, cause it's on brand… you should really watch the olympic games opening ceremony… wow!
Oh god, I sent that before your last shot… sorry but France is the best. Italy is very good, getting close second ahah, and Spain / Portugal, Greece, all have good food too, but it's not the same. Also France is culinary capital because we have invented the whole protocol and knowledge around it, the ceremonial aspects and the standards
My comment (where I said that Wolker is no expert …) has disappeared … !
Don’t hassle for vote time guys we had on month in France an the Brits had two if I recall
I have to say you've seen nothing of the French food in this video, some are just "tourist food" in a way, we eat it, but that's not the symbol of french gastronomie here (I'm not talking about bread and cheese, croissant or quiche obviously)
Many incredible dishes are waiting for you, like you said country of food, you could prefer chinesse, italian, Mexican but you cannot not recognize its variety and quality.
So be careful with "France isn't the best food in Europe" no rush opinion, don't hesitate to come but never forget Paris and parisian is not la France just a (big?) part of it.
5th of November is your voting day . Fun fact we voted on your 4th of July and you guys are voting on our 5th of November . Think 🤔 they are deliberately messing with us all .
French onion soup I love it yummy 🤤
Food in Europe is fresh delicious and really really really good.
"Foie gras" doesn't look good ? 😮 Damn…
You should really try it. One of the best food in my opinion (eat it with white wine 😉 )
Foie gras is illegal in multiple countries because of how it’s made! The production is extremely cruel and disgusting! 🤮💔
„To produce “foie gras” (the French term means “fatty liver”), workers ram pipes down the throats of male ducks twice each day, pumping up to 2.2 pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs, or geese three times a day, up to 4 pounds daily, in a process known as “gavage.” The force-feeding causes the birds’ livers to swell to up to 10 times their normal size. Many birds have difficulty standing because their engorged livers distend their abdomens, and they may tear out their own feathers and attack each other out of stress.“
I always thought it was funny that our gastronomy is considered kind of high end and somewhat elitist when most of the recipes come from rural french places and the most known one were made by poor people.
Most french cuisine is really sustainable grandma dishes basically.
The elitist and high cost myth mostly comes from Parisian scamming everyone with their stupidely high prices.
If one day you consider visiting France, don't stick to Paris, France is much more than that city especially culturally, historically and culinary wise.
Also again, Paris prices are absurds but prices are absurd in all cities tbf.
Eating is not just an act, over here it's also a socialization tool so we tend to eat for hours.
When it comes to bakery there's also so much more than the baguette too!
There's enough different kind of cheese in france that you could try one different cheese each day for three years.
It's not pesto in the snails, it's what we call "snail butter" which is garlic butter with a "persillade" which is a mix of parsley and garlic and oil.
Also Paris is not the culinary capital of France, that is Lyon's title.
We started a revolution because of bread. The "Flour War" was kind of the begining of a bloody insurrection. We don't mess around with bread.
Monsieur est bien trop ignorant pour apprécier la nourriture française, il a raison, rien ne vaut un tender de chez Joillibee lol nan mais sérieux…
