welcomes the 2024 kova Battle of the
burgers in partnership with Coastal
Virginia magazine and here now to talk
about all the mouthwatering details
Editor in Chief Leona Baker and sat
restaurant chef and owner cow folks
thank you both for being here today
absolutely thanks for having us all
right let’s kick it off first and
foremost let’s talk about this this
battle of the burgers what can people
expect when is it going to be first it
is going to be on June 8th at Chesapeake
City Park that’s a big change because
this is our fifth annual Battle of the
burgers and we’ve had it in Virginia
Beach up until now this is our first
time at Chesapeake we’ve got tons of
burgers this year the most we’ve ever
had lined up 20 more than 20 restaurants
competing C competition is going to be
fierce I like it I love the competition
but this guy comes to win so watch out
uh and then we’ve also got a new sponsor
this year Performance Food Service and
certified Angus beef we’re thrilled to
have them I’m trying to think what else
we’ we’ve got a new nonprofit partner
this year SP CA so they’re going to be
there with some kitties and doggies you
never know if you might go home with a
free puppy um they’re never free but you
know what I mean I do know what you mean
we’ve got live music of course that
comes with your ticket and then of
course all your burger tastings and
local beers and uh craft breweries there
so going to be a lot of fun honestly I’m
feeling The Vibes I’m hungry already
just thinking about it now you’ve
competed in this in the past I have
what’s the secret to success o you want
me to spill the beans for my competitors
not your secret maybe but I think uh
what makes a great burger and a good
product on that particular day um
something that’s hot fresh juicy uh and
cheesy those those are the secrets right
there got to bring the cheese you got to
bring the cheese uh it’s got to be juicy
and as long as it’s hot coming off that
Grill you got a good shot at winning for
sure oh I love I love it and all of this
it just sounds so delicious and thinking
about it but thinking about competition
how does this run I mean uh do people
participate with s the competition they
get to TA taste it how does that happen
yeah so your your ticket that you
purchase you can either get we actually
have a two-tier ticket structure this
year you can buy a VIP ticket that gets
you in a little earlier at noon so noon
to 5 for the VIP ticket holders or your
you can get a regular general admission
ticket from 12: to 5: that comes with
your tasting tickets so you go up hand
this guy or whatever restaurant you’re
trying out taste their burger um and
then you just go from one to the other
and come hungry is all I have to say we
one other thing actually we’re adding
this to we have a we’re doing a gourmet
french fry making demo from our friend
um Chef Mary cook over at Untamed Chef
in Chesapeake she’s going to do a little
demo for the VIP entrance I think at the
beginning and then she’ll have tastings
too so if the burgers aren’t enough you
got French fries on top of it yeah I
don’t know how you can beat that at all
what would you say for those who have
never done this before might be the most
surprising element that they come to it
they think oh I wasn’t expecting to
experience this I think creativity
people you literally took the words out
of my mouth creativity for sure uh a lot
of chefs bring their own unique twist
and and and taste to what they’re doing
um and even as a chef I was surprised at
the amount of creativity that went into
every single burger at every restaurant
um you know a classic you know bacon and
cheese sure you can’t go wrong with that
but I think when you start adding a
unique twist you know something like
Asian inspired maybe that’s a hint of
what I’m going to be doing uh you know I
think that really raises the bar and
gives people something that’s unexpected
did and they walk away from your booth
like wow that was very impressive yeah
don’t know how you can go wrong with a
burger so definitely don’t know how you
can go wrong with going to this event
one more time when it is where it will
take place and then also how people can
