The Ronin France is synonymous with great red wines but it’s also home to some of the greatest white wines in the world things like shav’s white armatage the chatow B Castel V rousan one of the greatest white wines I think that I’ve ever tasted in Northern R you have an

Entire appalachi dedicated to great white wine called kreu that’s made with the vion grape the white wines of the Southern Road are usually going to be Blends you’re going to find grapes like kusan marsan Balan Claret ganach Blanc and a slew of others if you bored of drinking things like Chardonnay Peno

Graio s Blanc I really think that you should give Rome white grapes a try I love the grapes kusan and marsan I think they offer tremendous drinking experiences they can be slate they can be honeyed have a little bit of Tangerine peel like flavors rad wines

Can be crisp but they can also be a little bit heavy oily meaty almost red wine like they also can be made fresh a lot of times you’ll see Kon blancs that are made in stainless steel to wines like shatov top blon which are barrel

For Ed a lot of the times and yes you will find white wines in shat enough to pop I think less than 10% of all wine production coming out of the Rome is white wines so they’re a little bit rarer they’re going to be a little bit

More expensive if you’re not going for a coat to roong today here I’m going to blind taste six different white wines from the southern rone we have one simple koton blong a more expensive shatov top blong and everything in between unfortunately I don’t have any Northern R whites those are extremely

Rare Maybe I could do something like a conri white Heritage tasting maybe in the future hey I Can Dream right let’s blind taste some rone white wines some serious wines we’re tasting out of my Gabriel glass standard editions I absolutely love these glasses probably my favorite glasses in the world they

Work great with all types of wines I’ll leave a link in the description box below so you can check them out if you purchase them it helps the channel out a lot so I appreciate it one of the wines is a very inexpensive wine there a coat

Blong and the rest are southern rone Cruise so we’ll see if they cat their own stance out or maybe we’ll see an upset like March Madness these are wines from the southern Rome where it’s a very warm Mediterranean climate sometimes producers have problems with acidity I think marsan and rousan are the most interesting grape varieties but now in the South producers have to use a lot more Bal lank sometimes they can use

Pick poool sometimes they can use Claret which is they’re just higher acid varieties because otherwise the wines can feel too fat that being said a lot of people that are new to white wines don’t like that sourness that high acidity so I think this is a good introduction if you’re trying to bridge

Somebody to drink more white wine which I am always trying to do because I love white wines let’s go with one number one here smells like a lot of vion lots and lots of yellow flour daffodil type flavors kind of like a dried Peach but the da and the Slate it’s really slatey

Too not all that complex actually the the Finish is kind of short it’s crispy it’s unusual I think a lot of people might like it cuz of its floral qualities but I think think it might be the coar Run well we’ll see here let’s go down here to Wine number two anyways

Had these corv in like normal and had somebody mix them up so I don’t know the order I did know what the wines were before I bagged them though let’s go on to number two here two is also vion but it’s a little bit more explosive oh now

Some lime and guava starts to come out green guava especially lime a little bit it started out floral but now some of those um now some of those fruit flavors are coming through you know what’s cool about these wines because the fruit is so this has got a long

Finish as well it has this Spike of fruit intensity without that sourness and that Spike of acidity that bother some people this has enough sometimes Southern R wines feel too fat these two both had pretty nice acidity whatever two is it’s a good wine three you pick

Up just a hint of vanilla it’s not too Oaky because in the southern room they sometimes use bigger barrels they don’t always use small bars 225 L barrels burgundy barrels are 228 l just nice little fun fact when you’re visiting sellers 3 l doesn’t sound like the big

Difference but really you see a little bit of a difference a little bit of wood now this is really honeyed uh some dried apricot flavors really complex dried yellow Peach a little bit of mineral it’s not floral like the first twoo number three reminds me of a wine that

Might be dominated by rousan marsan ganach blong I think one had more vion I think two it reminds me of a rone wine that has a little bit more Claret or bbal lank has a little brighter acidity three is is a little bit fatter what I mean it doesn’t have as much acidity

It’s a pretty ripe rine it’s really honeyed it’s stereotypical a southern R white wine can taste like it’s really good I like the honey like the complexity it’s got a super long finish let’s move on to number four here four smells the most modern you smell the

Wood but it’s not too much a little bit of lemon I mean these wines are a lot different hold on white peach or maybe even kiny this is more yellow Peach more honey I don’t like too much Oak red wines but I like oy white wines I don’t

Know it’s something weird this is not too oy but it’s it’s oier than the previous three whatever four is this is ambitious wine making well I Bean by that the wood tastes of higher quality it’s expensive got a long finish it’s so funny because it’s a modern take on a

Rone wine I wonder if this is aged in bars maybe smaller barrels cuz I pick up more of the wood type of flavor or maybe it’s aged to new wood I like it a lot it’s good whatever it’s good I like that there’s a lot of diversity here I read

One comment somebody’s like oh your tasting notes all sound the same and sometimes that’s true sometimes the wines can taste really similar I think all the wines here so far the first four tasted very different wine five is a little bit dustier has just a hint of

White peach but it’s more citrusy more neutral more mineral maybe just a touch of dandelion maybe a wine that has a little bit maybe ganach buun can be sometimes quite a neutral grape or Claret or burbet it didn’t smell like a lot of fruit but when you bite it it is

Like biting into fresh guava say I like it this really reminds me of ganach blong because of the mouth feel it’s really full and rich green guava type flavor one thing’s for sure these are not boring wines at all not at all wine six also more neutral more lemony

Flavor lemon slate just a hint of like old cigar box not brand new vanilla or French wood French know how to do barrel fermented white wine so well they just maybe they use the the best Oak for themselves that’s what that’s what a joke is in the wine industry six is

Really interesting because it doesn’t have a T of flavor doesn’t have a ton of Aromas but it gets citrusy and the knit length the Citrus just stretches out on the palette none of these wines were boring I had one here that I think was of lesser quality than the other ones which

I think is the coat derone if it’s not we’re going to we’re going to have a big time upset here these are going to be completely different drinking experiences the chard you resling so let’s start with number one it was the daffodil that that remember I said that

Had that yellow flow type flavor the only thing was the flavors weren’t as sharp and the Finish was a little bit shorter I think it might be the coat derone let’s see I also think that it had a lot of Von uh I gave it 87 points

Let’s take a look here see if it’s the simple coone or if I’m going to get schooled here let’s see how good my palette is wow shoot this is not this is the the Bon this is the Kiran this is the selis 2021 this is $22 okay so not a

Super expensive one it’s Claret ganach BL and R son organic producer Kiran is an Appalachian which I think is just makes extraordinary red wines this is the first Kiran W that I’ve ever tasted ex white wines on the r are of smaller quantity so it’s nice to taste this it

Is what it is let’s move on here to number six the flavors were muted it was more slatey remember I said just it wasn’t explosive but on the the Finish was really impressive it was long uh I gave it 91 points I thought it was super enjoyable I’m really excited to see what

The coat own is because I don’t know we let’s take a look here wow okay this is the domain DEA M this is the L Blanc this is the Lan de boa This Is 50 bucks this is regarded as one of the greatest white lxs lak is an Appalachian right

Across the Ron River from shat to pop region that I think produces a lot of good wines good value for money in the southern rone the whites are usually more expensive than the Reds cuz they’re so rare this is vion rousan marsan ganach blong and Claret 50 bucks biodynamic producer really funny because

I didn’t pick up the Aion it wasn’t super aromatic but I could not deny the length I remember very good wine this is 20021 91 points number five remember I said it was lemon at first remember I said the nose was kind of muted but then

All of a sudden when I bid on to it it was lots of fruit I thought it had the mouth feel of a ganache Blan uh type play I have it at 91 plus points let’s take a look here this is the the domain de la

Present this is the shat pop blong 45% ganach Blanc 25% Claret 20% rousan 10% Bal lank $40 actually super affordable for a shatov to Blanc they can get start to get super expensive sometimes shatov to blon they can lack acidity less than 6 or 7% of all wines produced in shat

Enough to pop are white so if you want to get in I think this is good value I’m really I’m glad that I picked out the ganach Blanc here number three honey layered long long had wood this was the most traditional Rooney type flavor I think the honey really stood out reminds

Me a lot of Marson a lot of maybe marsan rousan type of blend I think this is the most roony wine if you really want to taste that out of all these I gave it 92 points let’s take a look I think that my highest scored W might have been the

Fresh C own wall I think so far let’s take a look this is a very famous the monterio vakas mineral 38 bucks 2020 50% Bal lank 25% ganach Blan 25% rousan husan I still can’t pronounce that right $38 biodynamic producer love this producer this is a pretty iconic white

Wine Evas offers tremendous value for money again the white is a little more expensive than the vacas Reds because they make so little of it I have had this before aged I don’t think this is aged in wood but I picked up some wood type flavors Maybe what’s the Vintage

2020 okay it is what it is was this the complexity the top two wines I was splitting hairs between three and four here I was looking to go four maybe a little higher I gave just I was looking to go number three this Minal just a little bit higher number four was the

Most modern out of them had that Sleek had a lot of sleek wood flavors it was like a blend but having the traditional rone grape varieties but having new Oak so let’s take a look here I gave it 92 plus points I thought I said it was the

Most ambitious wine let’s take a look this is the Dain galal the Chiron Blanc the LA valet 2020 rusan KET and ganach Blanc $40 I thought it was very good wine quite ambitious the top wine I can’t believe this number number two green guava daffodil bright bright

Fruit and it had length and it had nice acidity I gave it 93 points and look what it is it’s the simplest wine in a bunch this is the domain de la president this is the coton Blanc 90% VI remember I said one and two had vion in them

Let’s go on to number two here two is also vion but it’s a little bit more explosive 5% grenage blong 5% husan 12 bucks I don’t know maybe because it was nasty crispy I prefer the cheapest wine blind giving that wine 93 points that’s incredible oh my goodness what do you

Guys think of rone white wine grapes have you tried them before you have a crew that you would prefer maybe it’s a coat toone maybe it’s a shat enough to pop white let me know in the comments below cheers

  1. I don´t drink that much of these wine but I really love the white Donjon Chateuneuf. I´m drinking the 2010 now and it´s aged just so beautifully!

  2. Earlier this week , I had the Jean-Luc Jamet CDR Blanc "Couzou" and it was delicious. Thanks for great video featuring CDR's.

  3. Its really not a surprise to me. young cote du Rhone. are really good young.
If you dit this tasting 3-5 year's from now, you would get a very diffrent outcome.
    🍷

  4. Brilliant tasting of wines that are hard to find here in Spain . You always keep it lighthearted and enjoyable.

  5. Really enjoy your channel! Côtes du Rhône is my go-to region for still somewhat affordable great wines, red and white!

  6. Great tasting from a region I adore, mainly for red wines. A lot of these southern Rhône whites are gastronomic wines. They shine with food. Not my type of wine for a glass late in the evening. For Northern Rhône try white Crozes Hermitage. A lot of choice, also from well known Rhône producers like Guigal and Vidal-Fleury.

  7. Lovely tasting. I’m a giant fan of white Rhône wines, have had a lot of them, varietals, blends, including a vin de pialle from Ermitage and the monopole Chateau-Grillet (was a gift🤯) stunning viognier. My favorite appellation, Saint Joseph. Fun to watch you taste through them.

  8. I think for a lot of people don't try white Rhone's because they are not like chardonnay. I enjoy them because they are not chardonnays! I look forward to your Condrieu tasting!

  9. Hey Matt! What do you think about a tasting between a particular varieties' spiritual home vs how the rest of the world makes it e.g. Condrieu vs Viogner from around the rest of the world? Cheers!

  10. Indeed… way under appreciated white wines, hence some are great values, are from both Rhone Valley and Alsace !!!

  11. Went from not really appreciating wine to becoming a wine nerd watching your videos. Much love from NY, trying out some Crozes Hermitage right now.

  12. I think old world white wine is underrated. Most people talk about Tuscany, Piemonte, Sicilia, Rioja, Bordeaux for their reds and skip out on whites. Like you showed, the whites in many regions can be fantastic and provide great value. I haven’t had much white Rhône wines, just one or two. Need to get some and take notes of them.

  13. I love chateneuf blancs, recently tried Magis from Rotem & mounir (lucien le moine)

Amazing wine and make me question my chardonnay mania 😂
