Hello everybody and welcome back to another video and if you’re here the very first time you’re really welcome I’m Jane and my husband Mike is behind the camera We’re British early retirees we’ve got no debt and we paid off the mortgage and we live a Thrifty Frugal

And moneysaving life here in Britany in Northwest France and every Friday we bring you something food related well bit of a background story to go with this I join a group of ladies every Friday and we do some fundraising for a local animal charity and we get

Together and in our craft group we make things that are sold to raise money for animals in need and as part of that we we go along pay to go to the craft group and that money from the craft group as well goes to the animal charity and we

Take turns making baked good good maybe biscuits or cookies or cakes or we take something along for that occasion and this Friday it’s my turn so this Friday I have made a load of oat and raisin biscuits or you could call them cookies if you like we call them biscuits so

I’ve made a good batch of them you can half the recipe and when you see the recipe it’ll be on the end card and all you’ll have to do is pause it and you can see all of the recipes there at the end so let’s get baking these cookies let’s run through the

Ingredients of my oat cookies I’ve got 200 g of Oats I’ve got 200 g of gluten-free flour I’m using bread flour it’s already got some Zant and gum in it I will use butter brown sugar soft brown sugar however use whatever sugar you’ve got baking powder and some bicarbonate of soda gold

Syrup and I because these have been sat in my cupboard for ages I’m going to use them up over the next few weeks I’ve got some raisins as well so we’ll add in handful of raisins what I love about this is the only equipment that you need

To make this in is a pan cuz I’m going to melt the butter the sugar the golden syrup together I will then add the baking powder and the B carb to the flour stir it together and add the flour and the oats to the pan that’s that it

Is so so simple to make so those are my ingredients for my gorgeous oat and raisin cookies I’ve got my spoon ready to measure out my golden syrup in hot water and that’s so the golden s just slides off easily I am going to get cooking W Hey here is the melted butter sugar and golden syrup uh earlier you saw me use a mixture of soft brown sugar and regular white sugar and that’s because I wanted to use at what I had open before I opened any other sugar and you can use any sugar in this

Recipe it’s nice with soft brown sugar it gives it a nice flavor but if you haven’t got it don’t worry and I love about this it’s just one pan to clean up so in go my oats I give them a good stir Hing of my raisins this is going to make enough Oak

Cookies that I’ll probably have to bake them in two batches because I’ve only got two shelves in my oven and two baking trays and last of all in goes my flour and my baking powder and my bicarbonate soda and in it all goes so little

Washing up with this and I’ll give it a good Stir there it is I’m just going to leave this to cool just for a few moments W here they all are out of the oven I’ve got two trays still cooling these are the last ones out some of the observant amongst you will say they’re different colors why are they different colors because I didn’t time them I just waited until they cooked I left these in

For a little bit longer and they’re a bit Browner it’s okay we’re going to eat them not put them in a beauty competition there they are in close up oat cookies and all them other few raisins in there as well they will keep all week too they’re a great thing we go oh

Cookies so here are the finished cookies and I wish we had smell a vision because the lovely smell of brown sugar and butter are coming off these um they’re not all for mik and I as I said at the beginning of the video These are going off to my

Craft group for the ladies to have them at the craft group with their afternoon tea so we’re all going to enjoy these so cookies are soft but I’m going to try and break one of these which will be a shame because then I’ll have to give it

To mik to eat straight away and show you these that they are quite soft but not as soft as cookies and they they get harder as they get cold in you can see they’re quite crispy underneath and the smell is just Heavenly there you are mik

I’m sorry you’re going to have to help me out with that one in a moment so there they are and as I said in earlier in video they are different colors those I left in for just smidge too long so we’ll keep these these at home and

Nobody at the craft group will be any of the wiser but some of them were a bit Browner they will keep in a lided container all week they will be fine I’ve never Frozen them so I don’t know if you could freeze them um I think you

Could make the mixture up freeze that then defrost it if you wanted to make your life easier so you’ve got a batch of it ready made but uh they don’t cost very much to make and again if you can’t get golden syrup wherever you live in the search

Bar of YouTube Just put in there how to make golden syrup and it will show you and it is very very very simple I don’t think I would advise using any other kind of syrup or honey because golden SI is is is very different it it is

Different but if you haven’t got it you do try something else and it works out fine let me know let me know so there they are all made for the ladies at my craft group to have with their afternoon tea and a few for us to have over the

Weekend very cheap very easy to make oat and raisin Biscuits

  1. Love that you support an animal charity. Biscuits look good, another one I'll try but wiill make and take them to the charity shop for tmy fellow volunteers. I made your caramelised onion, rice, and lentils recipe from the other week. As both a vegetarian and a slimmer it fitted well on my plan. Delicious. . Thank you.

  2. I´m making your biscuits right now using "Grafschafter Heller Sirup" wich is (as far as i know) basically the same as golden syrup. They smell awsome, looking forward to treating me with some tonight. Thanks for the recipe.

  3. Your ladies group will enjoy the cookies. Simple enough for my young one to help. You all are doing good work for the animal shelters. Have a good day, it warming up here in Tennessee.

  4. Afternoon Jane and Mike, although I am not a biscuit fan I have to say they do look yummy. I am sure the group will enjoy them

  5. Yummy, I freeze my biscuits, very similar to our Anzac recipe, they are great and crunchy straight from freezer 😋
I also add sunflower or sesame seeds from time to time, adds a wee bit more nutritional content for a sweet treat 😊

  6. I regularly sub honey or light molasses for golden syrup or do a mix of honey and golden syrup if I haven't got enough of one for the recipe. Whatever I am making always turns out fine, the taste is just a bit different if you use honey but still delicious. These look good, will definitely be making a batch. Thanks for the recipe and hope the craft ladies enjoyed them!

  7. Hi Jane, what a lovely video and yummy recipe. I will definitely give these a try I’m sure my kids would love them and they are so simple to make. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a lovely day!

  8. Where I live, GF flour is very expensive, so I process some oats in a food processor until it's the consistency of flour and use it instead. It tastes great in oatmeal cookies, and adds some extra fiber. You can also use it in quick breads that don't have a leavening agent. Oatmeal raisin cookies are my favourite!

  9. Looks great! Going to try these cookies fully plant-based as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the estrogen and possible BLV in dairy and choline and lead in eggs. Thanks for sharing

  10. Hi Jane and Mike!!I love the recipe but I have a question. Can i put margarine instead of butter? Thanks so much!!!❤❤❤

  11. Lovely oatmeal bikkies with a cup of coffee ☕️, delicious 👍.
Enjoy supporting the animal group with the other ladies.
    Good video ✔️

  12. Will try these tomorrow for husband and sons. Im new to your channell, found you last weekend. And have been catching up.

  13. I used to makes these for my family when I was nine. I used my mother's recipe from her primary school cooling class. Mum called them munchies. Mum didn't add any dried fruit however I added raisins. when I was making them. These biscuits were made by mothers and wives all over Australia & New Zealand to send to the troops during wars. These biscuits are celebrated as ANZAC biscuits. We put all dry ingredients into a bowl, boiled the butter, sugar and cane syrup into a saucepan, boil then added to the dry ingredients. We also added 1 cup of coconut which makes then chewy. Loved watching you make yours.
