The 6 Nations Wine Selection with Fizz is the perfect wine selection to have in your wine rack this February. It contains two delicious Sauvignon Blancs from the Loire in France, a Sparkling Wine from England which easily rivals Champagne in terms of quality and value for money, a fine and elegant Cotes du Rhone made by 2 Irish men (and a French!), and a deliciously juicy Organic Sangiovese from Italy.
Rathfinny 2018 Classic Cuvee, England
Produced using the classic Champagne grape blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, this Classic Cuvée from Southern England can easily be mistaken for Champagne. It spends 36 months on lees which helps develop the rich and creamy texture, which is then layered with flavours of apples, tangerines, grapefruit, summer fruit sorbet and buttered brioche.
Les Rafelieres Sauvignon, Loire, France
A new one for us, this Sauvignon Blanc is gorgeously ripe and juicy with flavours of Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples backed up by irresistible juicy acidity. Enjoy this with or without food, its so verstaile that it is one of the wines that can be enjoyed with a huge range of food. My personal favourite with this is to enjoy it with a roast chicken.
Produced in Loire, which is the home town of Sauvignon Blanc, our house wine is easy to see why it is so popular.
Cantina dei Colli Ripani, Organic Sangiovese, Italy
Medium bodied Sangiovese (the principle grape in Chianti), with dark cherry fruit and perfectly ripe plums.
Cantina dei Colli Ripani is on the Adriatic coast in the Marche region. The first vintage here was 1977 and they have embraced both forward thinking strategies as well respect for the land and their they now use organic methods and renewable energy from solar panels at the winery. At 500 meters above sea level, the grapes have both intense ripe fruit and fine structure and acidity.
Les Deux Cols, O Font, Cotes du Rhone 2022
Vibrant red in colour, with aromas of red and black cherries, plums and black olives. This medium bodied red has a silky texture, fine tannins and a fresh acidity. Perfect with grilled lamb cutlets, or roast pork loin.
A gorgeous wine produced by icons of the Irish wine industry in France; Simon Tyrrell and Gerard Maguire are joined by Charles Derain for this exciting wine project in the Cotes du Rhone.

Welcome back the Six Nations is kicking off next week and we’re taking inspiration from some of the countries taking part to inspire our wine it’s just an excuse to drink wine Michelle Lawler from the nude Wine Company joins us good morning Michelle any excuse for
You to come in and let us taste some wi but these are the countries who are taking part some of the countries are taking part in the Six Nations listen we’ll make the link somehow unsurprisingly first off we’re going to France we’re going to France and I have like probably France’s most famous
Export which is San Blanc if you want to have a try of it this is from Lair the home of San Blanc globally this is lir the home of San Blanc it is everyone thinks it’s New Zealand but it’s actually Lair and this is a lovely classic well yeah it started here but
Then the new world oh they took the the grape cuttings and it’s just isn’t it gorgeous oh my God that is sharp that is what and the texture is really really lovely and that’s I think the big difference between um New Zealand and France is that it’s a bit softer that’s
30 Europe thought I was going to say I bet you that’s really expensive no wow that’s delicious W now I’m going to see I just automatically go for the Mal New World ones that there’s a lot of value to be found you have to work hard to
Find the good ones and I think that’s probably the biggest part of any job as a wine buyer is to find good value under 15o it’s the hardest category it’s delici delicious sorry sorry know sorry that is just delicious so anyway but that’s laar s on from France um and just
Yeah easy drinking and worth the e to I tell you I’m going to take a picture of that because I’ll be I’ll be buying that cuz that is delicious have it on a Case deal oh fair play okay the next one is um it’s Italian and this Fab one actually the
Label is the Italian flag this is Sano VY from H so it’s the next wine there along so sanio VY is um the grape that’s in keti this is done slightly further south from where keti is and so it’s a bit softer a bit riper it’s really
Lovely and easy to drink if you want sanes Sor I’m not a Red Wine Drinker anyway but I’m just saying like is is that a popular sort of wine keti is popular and the way wines are labeled in Europe is after the place not after the grape so even though you’ve been
Drinking or if you’ve been drinking keti for years you might have known you’re actually drinking sanesi and no Oak yeah lovely it’s um uh vegan friendly organically farmed it’s beautiful it’s a really really gorgeous glass of wine 1680 for that one and is that North or
South so that’s you imagine if like a leg you’re kind of looking at the back of the knee kind of halfy halfy okay back of thee back of the KNE I have it there straight away I had it and where’s MIP pucho close to the back of the knee as
Well yeah the knee pit that does remind me that does remind me they’re actually from the same area are they they’re beautiful if you’re like a multi you’re love that you know Med probably had it once we to the next one which is the one I’m most excited about Le do call from
Coat R so that is um Southern or kind of like C Cal uh France so very close to where Shad enough to Pap is if you’re trying to place it and this is two irish guys and one french guy who I think wants to be Irish um and mad rugby fan
So I could not put it in they’ve F what’s it called is it ofont ofont is the name of the couet they make three different cves and this is their house one grapes are the same as Shad enough to pop so ganache and S what I love
About this is the silky texture see I love that the way it’s it’s a you can say it’s French it’s oant or it’s the two irish guys pad oant pant there you go is but it’s um they’re they’ve been in the wine industry forever they’re total gents and um delighted to be able
To then put them in this kind of rugby selection but the texture is lovely oh that’s lovely yeah that’s much softer silkier than the other one for sure and this one definitely with a little bit of food the steak that Alberto cooked earlier oh and look and you have some
Gorgeous urban urban kit ince and that so i’ said oh I’m doing wine you know for the rugby let me do a party party platter F over to watch the look at that actually isn’t that a great idea just get a party platter and a few bottles of wine Watch the watch
Everything in the audence so those are definitely so if you’re saying what Alberto was making earlier on that kind of steak which was just so beautiful cuz it does taste completely different to the Italian to do it so totally different grapes totally different heat actually this is mucher but there’s a
Bit of Oak in this one I prefer that one I prefer the and it’s and and I think the silky texture is fabulous and it’s and it’s funny because I like a fool left that in the car overnight so it came out at 6° so it was slightly but
It’s funny it warmed up beautifully to the temperature in the studio yeah lovely is there a thing that you should never serve red wine cool oh look this one the first one you could serve cold because the tannins are lighter what happens is if you put a red wine in the
Fridge um the flavors get muted and the tannin are really aggressive so this one it’s warmed up beautifully and you can see in the tast now you’re very excited about this spk yeah so this is from Sussex and I meant to actually look on English wine an English wine to see
Where susex was definitely south of London down south down sou down south um so these are the grapes that you would normally get in a bottle of champagne made in the champagne method and it’s vintage but it can’t be called champagne because it’s notown the Champagne region
And I think the most important thing to remember about this one is that it’s 2018 vintage do you know the way if you go and you buy a bottle of champagne and says non-vintage or on the label that’s because it’s a blend of a few different
Years to make a house style if you buy a bottle of one of the bigger Champagnes every bottle you taste for the last 15 years it’ll always taste the same only in an exceptional vintage will you produce wines only from that year and bottle them only from that year okay so
If you were going to get a vintage champagne say it’ be 80 or 90 yeah this is a vintage one so it’s a little bit and for me it’s it’s quite dry lovely I don’t think that say tastes like champagne at all do you not no yeah
I mean there’s an element that it’s warmer or sorry colder yeah I think it’s Fab like gray crack yeah and it’s funny though for years people have been trying to sell English English sparkling wines and I think now they’ve come to the forest so it’s in Richard osman’s latest
Book I’m like why is he still talking about the English uh from the nude wine company thank you so for you can find all of these of course in the nude Wine Company Michelle laer thank you so much Tommy you enjoying your red oh I’m loving this fair play to the Irish Lads
Of course in their red it is very tasty
