Last Cocktail Of 2023! Tuxedo Cocktail – Cocktails After Dark
TUXEDO
1 part Old Tom Gin
1 part French Vermouth
1 dash Absinthe per cocktail
1 dash Maraschino per cocktail
2 dashes Orange Bitters per cocktail
Squeeze a piece of lemon peel on top, and serve with a cherry.
Welcome back to Cocktails After Dark, friends! In this episode, we’re delving into a classic cocktail from Jimmy Late of SOS, published in Toronto in 1930. It’s called The Tuxedo, featuring Old Tom Gin, vermouth, maraschino, absinthe, and orange bitters.
I’ve chosen two different Old Tom Gins for this mix; one is the Wit Old Tom Gin from a local distillery in Prince Edward County, and the other is a widely available mass-market Old Tom Gin. We’ll be using French white dry vermouth in equal measure to the gin.
Adding a dash of absinthe and maraschino to each, along with a couple of dashes of orange bitters, we’ll ice and shake each concoction individually. As you’ll see, the colors of the gins are distinctly different, contributing to the visual appeal of the final result.
The Wit Old Tom Gin boasts unique flavors from local botanicals like sumac, giving it a striking color. It’s perfect for a Tom Collins, though we haven’t tried that yet. The second Old Tom Gin has its own flavor profile, making this a delightful exploration of the Old Tom style.
As we sip and savor these concoctions, you’ll notice the refreshing nature of each cocktail. The first is more gin-forward, while the second has a subtler gin flavor with additional complexities. It’s truly a great way to bid farewell to 2023.
This marks the last Cocktails After Dark of the year, and we want to express our gratitude for joining us throughout 2023. We hope you’ve had fun exploring cocktails at your own pace, discovering what suits your palate. Remember, the rules are flexible—drink what you enjoy.
So, here’s to The Tuxedo and a wonderful 2024 filled with delightful libations. Thank you for being a part of Cocktails After Dark. Cheers!

Welcome Friends welcome back to the kitchen welcome back to cocktails after dark we’re going to do another cocktail from Jimmy late of SOS um this was published in Toronto in 1930 don’t know if Jimmy uh quit or if he was fired or what happened but he no longer worked at
Zos when he wrote this book and we’re going to do something called The Tuxedo um old Tom Jin vermouth mariso and I’m going to use two different Old Tom Gin this one is wit old Tom Jin and it is from a Distillery just east of us in Prince Edward
County and I’m going to use a large mass Market old Tom Jin that everybody should be able to get their hands on in this other cocktail next French white dyy verou um same amount as the Jin this is the last cocktail of cocktails after dark 2023 and I had just enough vermouth and
So that’s the last of the vermouth I’ve got like a quar ounce left I may enjoy that later so now we need a dash of absent in each one I call that a dash then we need a dash of mar skino I call that a dash it’s probably more than a dash
But that’s what we’re going to get and then a couple dashes of orange bitters and we will ice and shake these individually as per usual hey hi friends those are very clear looking it is very clear and the completely different colors and I can see the Gin difference
Right like clearly yellow gin white gin so the the this old Tom the kinip um they’ve got some interesting flavors in theirs they’re using again this is local they’re using some local Botanical um in their in their mixture always excited there’s a car going it things like sumac and
Yep local yeah local things what does it say now I want to look I know I’ve looked at dozen times but you know you forget right good you’re distracted you going oh you did it again I can lick the Cherry spoon what is with that right it says it’s perfect for a Tom
Collins I don’t know that we’ve ever made a Tom Collins we have never made a Tom Collins well that’s another day doesn’t actually list its Botanical some of them are on there well now we’ve wasted so much time on on this I know anyway let’s continue shall we the
Striking color of Juniper’s wit old Tom sweeten gin comes from the sumac indigenous to picturesque Ed I didn’t read the first paragraph I read the second paragraph okay let’s give it a go smells good smells really good a lot going on in there that one’s really refreshing
So is this one with a little bit of extra flavor to it yeah okay um those are both really like it’s like throwing a mint in your mouth yeah like they are lovely but it’s not minty no no don’t it’s not minty that’s not what I meant it’s it’s that
Refreshingness of of that right yes yeah and they’re completely different they have completely I mean they’re both old Tom style Gins but they have completely different flavor profiles I do like that cocktail though mhm I would say this one is much more gin forward it has that
Gin flavor right up front this one the Gin flavor is a little more subtle a little more subdued got a couple other flavors flavors going on and this is where I can’t tell you what those flavors are you’ll have to try different things yourself but that’s a great cocktail
That’s a great cocktail to end 2023 with har so um last cocktail after dark of 2023 thank you for watching cocktails after dark all year um I hope you’ve had lots of fun yeah I hope I hope that you have been able to explore cocktails at
Your own pace with your own palette and try to figure out what you like cuz it’s it’s it’s hard and why drink something you don’t like yeah exactly exactly throw the rules out the window if you find something that you like don’t worry about the rules please
Yourself I think that’s about it so the tuxedo thank you very much oh sorry I was

I'm not a drinker, but it has still been very interesting. Thanks.
Glen & Julie , have an Amazing New Year. 🎉
And now I want some of that Wit gin! I doubt I want to pay what it would cost to get it over here though. Lovely to see another cocktail that’s just really nice in both versions. How appropriate for the season! Happy new year to you both.
Thanks Glenn and Julie. Hope you have a safe an happy new year.
Enjoyed your content!! Look forward to 2024 🎉 A happy holidays to you both!
Happy New Year to you guys, as well as everyone here watching the video!
I always enjoy your take on these cocktails from the past. And I also get a kick out of what comes out of your mouths and the spelling or should I say misspelling of words on the captions. Palate versus palette. Makes me laugh because they are completely different words with completely different meanings.
So funny that you guys have to qualify so many things for commenters now "It's NOT Minty!". Hope ya'll have a great new year!😄
So… how big are the “parts” you used in measuring your gin and vermouth?
Given that the other measures are “fixed” (granted the ‘dash’ is a pretty subjective measure), I can imagine pretty big differences in flavor between cocktails made with 1 oz. “parts”, 1.5 oz. “parts”, and 2 oz. “parts”. Since you both liked this cocktail, I really wanna make sure I duplicate your recipe.
Nice to end the year on a unanimous thumbs up. Have a safe and happy New Year, and a safe and happy new year.
2023: BOTTOMS UP! LAST CALL, etc.
Thanks for all the wonderful content in the past years! Looking forward to you guys in 2024!!!
cheers!
It's like a martini and an improved whiskey cocktail had a baby!
Happy New Year!
I wonder where you're hiding the Kazoos?😂
That was fun. I grew up in the county, love Kinsip. Love your cap as well.
Yay cocktails after dark. Can’t wait for more in 2024!
I think the last video in this series for the year should be ranking the top three that you've made that year.
CU Next Year.
Can we get a count on the number of jumpers Jules owns? 😅
Please continue this series. I have learned so much from you and my cocktails have become much more interesting and complex than plain gin & tonic or scotch & soda.
I don't really drink, nor do I really cook, but your videos are always on rotation.
there’s a musicality to how you said “old tom gin, vermouth, maraschino”
As someone who hasn’t been able to drink due to a later in life diagnosis of epilepsy (my meds and alcohol don’t mix) I’ve realized how little alcohol I’ve tried in my life and am bummed out 😂 My adult children don’t drink, and neither do any of my friends so I’m never invited anywhere for cocktails, and I don’t want to order pricey drinks at restaurants to have one sip.Let’s hope they invent some better seizure meds because I’m interested in trying so many things I see on here.Happy Holidays and New year Glen and Julie❤
Thanks Glenn & Jules!
It's like Pavlov's dog. Your wife hears the shaker and starts salivating, and comes running for the cocktail. biology is amazing. Go get some Barr Hill Tom Cat gin from Vermont I think. Awesome stuff in a Martinez.
Wishing you both a happy holiday season, and a fantastic 2024.
beautiful!
Happy New Year!
Out with a beauty and a bang.
Happy new year to you both!
Didn't have a cocktail to salute you with, so I raised my mug of tea (Pai Mu Tan white tea) to ya in that last toast. Cheers!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! thanks for a year of intoxicating videos.
Very Best to you both and all your fan base in 2024!
Happy New Year to you both. Glen and Julie…a Healthy, Safe and Prosperous 2024!
!ALGORIRTHM!
You must have a nice Christmas and a happy New Year.
Cheers from Norway
It's silly how much I enjoy watching you make cocktails, considering I don't drink much. Cheers and a heartfelt goodbye to 2023.
Thanks you two, happy holidays and I look forward to next years good stuff from your kitchen.
Happy New Years
I chuckle every time you shoot the shaker action because I think back to the video you once posted, setting some viewers straight on the length of the shake! 😂 Have a terrific New Year, Glen and Julie, and to everyone viewing the channel!
Didn't you say that you made all of these "cocktails after dark" videos in january last year? Y'all must've been pickled, lol!
I like how she comes right at the perfect time! Right when the drink are ready!😂 Cheers to you both and Happy New Year! 🎉🎉
Maybe we could get a favorite cocktails of 2023?
