Some Japanese vocabulary used on the tour:
“Yakimatsu” 焼松: Similar to “yakisugi” 焼杉, which is a traditional method of wood preservation. The surface of trhe wood is slightly charred, which makes the wood water-proof and more durable.
Noren 暖簾: traditional Japanese fabric dividers hung between rooms, on walls, in doorways, or in windows. They usually have one or more vertical slits which makes it easier to pass and look through.
