What is Nice carnival or Carnaval de Nice ?
Nice Carnival is a pre-Lenten carnival that takes place in February every year which lead up to Mardi Gras (Fat/Shrove Tuesday), the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent.
This year Carnival is 15 days of celebration from 11 to 27 February 2022. Parades of ‘Corsi Carnavalesques’ (day and night) and flower battles, animations, shows and much more organized. This year’s theme is the “King of the Animals”, the Carnival of reunions and novelties.
Nice is located in the French Riviera, which is the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes, France.

Nice Carnival 2022 Programme (main Events information) :
11 February : Opening Ceremony
ceremony kicks off at Place Masséna in Nice. There will be lots of floats, dancers, musical troupes, flag bearers, costumed performers will join and enjoy the show.
11, 12, 13 February : The Belgian Carnival “Les Gilles de la Louvière”
The Belgian Carnival ( called by locals as “Les Gilles de la Louvière”) will have buzzing with its amazing colourful costumes, giant hats, clogs, belts and cheerful music.
12, 15, 19, 22 and 26 February : Illuminated Carnival Parade ( Corso Carnavalesque )
Parades have the most festive and colorful atmosphere. The 2022 Nice Carnival theme “The King of the Animals” will be brought to life through the music groups, street art troupes and performers, hailing from all over the world. Enjoy Carnival floats which have been created by the world’s best craftsmen decorated according to theme.
20 February : Corso Carnavalesque – La Parada Nissarada
This parade represents local heritage. All the floats in this parade are designed and constructed by local carnival associations, which shows how important this carnival is to each district. This parade also represents and showcase Nice.
13, 16, 19, 23 & 26 February : Battle of the Flowers
This incredible flower parade takes place with flower floats and costumed performers, who throw flowers to the spectators. Over 250,000 flowers and 21 tons of mimosa are thrown to the crowd. This year a gigantic green flower promenade will be in the middle of the Place Missena (Masséna).
27 February : A Last Farewell to the King
Carnival will end with a massive and highly popular, free street party.

Election of the Carnival Counts and Countesses for each six regions of Nice on 7 February 2022.
Final Election of Nice Carnival King and Queen 2022 on 7 February 2022.
Its an innovative way to promote the districts and heritage of Nice.
The Théâtre de Verdure : Throughout carnival, the Théâtre de Verdure will be running entertainment for anyone to enjoy. Also run ‘carnival masterclasses’ to give some insight into the history of carnival.
People can also enjoy the exhibition of floats between place GARIBALDI and the centenary monument.
Throughout Nice Carnival there is a carnival village set up that has gourmet food stands, drink stands, arts, crafts, animations, shows, costumes, music and more. Around the Bandstand of the Jardin Albert 1er.
