LET’S WALK with me, today we are going to walk around Bloor-Yorkville, Toronto’s most dynamic neighborhoods. As Ontario finally entered step one of the roadmap to reopen on June 11, you will see how people are happy to be out and it’s written all over their faces. We also ran into the World Naked Bike Ride Toronto2021 when they rode across Bay Street, and additionally, we are also going to virtual walk the Brainwash Pop Up exhibition in Taglialatella Galleries.
Yorkville is a neighborhood and former village in Toronto. Within the Yorkville district is one of Canada’s most exclusive shopping districts, anchored by the Mink Mile (Mink Mile is an upscale shopping district in the neighborhood of Yorkville in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, along Bloor Street between Yonge Street and Avenue Road.) along Bloor Street. In 2006, the Mink Mile was the 22nd most expensive street in the world, with rents of $208 per square foot. Yorkville is an eclectic mix of luxury condominium apartment buildings, commercial office towers, four-star hotels, theatres, gourmet restaurants, a prestigious shopping district, and picture-postcard Victorian homes. The commercial heart of Yorkville is located on both Yorkville Avenue and on Cumberland Street.
About WNBR:
The World Naked Bike Ride is a global protest against the over usage of oil and urban pollution, promoting greater cycling safety on our roads, and encouraging body freedom for everyone. This site visually describes the naked protest and environmental awareness event. You are encouraged to join this legal ride. There is no cost, no registration, no cost to the taxpayer, no corporate sponsors, and best of all it originated in Vancouver, Canada, and now occurs in over 80 cities worldwide.
About Mr. Brainwash:
French-born artist Thierry Guetta, known by his pseudonym Mr. Brainwash, has captured the imagination of the international art market with his unique fusion of classic Pop Art imagery with the subversive playfulness of contemporary Street Art. His unique working style incorporates richly layered screen printing, stencils, spray painting, and improvisational hand painting. His imagery playfully juxtaposes cultural icons of the past with the present while stylistically paying homage to an array of artists from Andy Warhol to Keith Haring and Banksy. In 2008, Mr. Brainwash was the subject of Banksy’s documentary, Exit Through The Gift Shop, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Their collaboration resulted in a remarkable documentary that is a part personal journey and part exposé of the art world with its mind-altering mix of hot air and hype.
