I ordered the James Gourmet Coffee beans online. The gourmet coffee beans are roasted in Ross on Wye by James Gourmet Coffee roasters. I grind the beans with a Melitta Molino for my Kalita Wave 185. The Brazilian Fazenda Jacaranda whole beans arrived really quickly and were well packed. The beans come in a good quality resealable packet with a one way valve to let the carbon dioxide escape.
I don’t rush through this video, and the only part speeded up is when I grind the beans. But, hey, who wants to rush making their coffee or, indeed, talking about it. If so there’s always instant…
Disclaimer: I am not a coffee expert. I like coffee. I like talking about coffee. Amongst other things I also like biscuits and stationary. I am not an expert in those either, funnily enough.

This is the James Hoffman video where James of Square Mile Roasters mentions James Gourmet Coffee.

Mr. Hoffman has a huge selection of coffee videos. Well worth a look. In fact, well worth, several looks.
George Howell is so knowledgeable and passionate. Check out his video on coffee extraction.

Chris Baca of Santa Cruz’s Cat and Cloud is fantastic. He just seems to know what he’s talking about. Mr. Baca gets straight to the point, and keeps it very real.

My grinder is a Melitta Molino, which I bought online at Amazon
It works for me. And it wasn’t expensive.
The beaker, which sounds as if it ought to be in a science class or museum is part of a French Press Carafe from Sebastion Conran. I picked it up in a charity shop but the trouble with French press is the grounds. And I thought I don’t really want to block my office sink as there’s always a few stray grounds hanging around even if you’ve banished the main party to bin. So I thought why not canabalise it for my pour over. As of writing I haven’t broken it yet.
I have the Salter Scales, which I’ve had for a few years.
And even thought they’ve had a good dousing in water and, indeed, coffee they’re still going strong. An easy battery replacement. I always make sure that I have a good stock of batteries near all my scales. There is nothing worse than getting all set for coffee with beans ground waiting to go into action and the scales give up as the battery has died. The Salter batteries are CR2032.
At a push you may be able to use a similar size battery but they’re cheap enough to keep a stock near your scales.
Camera Stuff and Things
I tend to shoot these videos on my own. I’m fortunate that I have a small production company so I have reasonable access to equipment. But as is said: the best camera is the one you have with you.
I also use mobile phones if that is what I have available.
A great help when shooting on your own is a decent monitor and especially if you don’t have a rotatable screen. I use the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K which is also a recorder. They’ve upgrade so check this up to date version

I find the Canon EOS C100s perfect in form for these type of videos as they have easily accessible menus, scopes, good quality video, external xlr inputs, and best of all I like them.
Shop around there are great bargains around.

When I’m doing these type of videos I use the Canon 18 -135. It has image stabilization and works really well, reasonably priced and versatile.

The sound was recorded on a Rode NTG 3 microphone.
It isn’t a cheap mic. If you’re on a budget shop around as there are some great mics out there. I like Rode products and use their mini mics on my run and gun productions. I also use their Iphone mic which works really well. They’re worth keeping in your bag as you never know when they’ll come in handy.
Other Bits and Other Things
The Opinel Knife has been around a while and I’ve had mine for a good few years as you can tell by the scaring.
As I mention in the video: please be aware that Opinel is a lock knife and as such may be subject to certain legislation in your country irrespective of blade length.
The music used on this video is from Soundstripe.
