Because this practice of force-feeding is widely considered to be unethical, a lot of people, funnily enough, object to the production and consumption of foie gras.
And so production is banned in several European countries, including the UK but even though production is banned, you can still buy imported foie gras from France and it is regularly served as a delicacy in fine dining restaurants in countries where it’s illegal to produce it.
But there’s no doubt, it’s a controversial item to have on the menu. However, it’s protected by law in France and the French law states that “Foie gras belongs to the protected cultural and gastronomical heritage of France.”
