There’s no denying it—formal French meals come in multiple courses and are lengthy affairs. But what are those courses, and in what order are they supposed to be served? It really is not as mysterious as it may at first seem.

A typical Seven course French meal can be organized as follows :
La carte de menu :
1. Hors-d’œuvre
Canapés
2. Potage
Soupe à l’oignon
3. Poisson
Poisson grillé
4. Entrements
Sorbet
5. Plat principal
Cuisses de poulet et pommes de terre au four
6. Salade froide
Salade de pâtes au pesto
7. Entremets / Desserts
Crème brulée
Le plateau de charcuterie is placed on the dinner table until the end which is an assortment of cured meats, cheeses, breads (including baguette), nuts, dips and fruits.
After drinks can be a cup of coffee or an espresso shot or a cup of tea.
Also, all along the meal are offered drinks through a selection of white or red wine, beer or may a non-alcoholic drink.
