Dine in the Bastille? Not an idea that would tempt many today, yet several accounts of the food are downright appetizing. This talk looks at several of these accounts, as well as others that are less edifying. It also gives a brief history of the structure overall.

The named writers (some are anonymous) include Renneville, the Abbe’ Morellet, Marmontel, General Dumouriez and Henri Linguet (whose “Memoirs of the Bastille” are sometimes credited with leading to the castle’s fall).

A talk from Jim Chevallier, author of “A History of the Food of Paris: From Roast Mammoth to Steak Frites” and editor of the annotated version of Linguet’s “Memoirs of the Bastille”.
