What do you do with wine when nobody drinks it? Not too long ago people would have assumed that if nobody drinks wine then you just keep it in the cellar and save it for the next party. However, in times of COVID-19 and a global trade war, this doesn’t seem to be a solution. After the United States declared war against European wine, European wine manufacturers have a surplus of wine which nobody wants to buy.
There are now 300 million extra liters of wine which is roughly 3.7 billion gallons of wine that are not sellable at this time. Because of this, the French vineyards came up with a great idea. They figured that since they were in the pandemic caused by COVID-19 and they couldn’t sell wine, they decided to make hand sanitizer and disinfectant out of wine. They can do this because both use alcohol.
Doing this was a great idea, surely there will be some wine connoisseurs who are very upset that thousands of bottles of wine are not consumed, however for people’s health, it may be more relevant than anything else. Staying healthy means disinfecting yourself and wine may lower your level of immunity. If you do have a glass of wine though, enjoy it.
