The Pour Nomads are here to introduce you to a fantastic wine. This Chardonnay for under $45 will impress everyone you know. For our 19 year wedding anniversary, The Pour nomads and Wine Explorers are tasting a wine that is a 2017 Denis Race Montmains Chablis 1er Cru (Premier Cru) Chardonnay that I picked up for $40-$45 but online it can be purchased for about $35. This is a Premier Cru wine (just below the best, Grand Cru) in Chablis which is known for white wines only made from Chardonnay as well as no oak maturation. This is all done in stainless steel. I have developed an app that will help you understand what is in this bottle just by knowing the label says Chablis ( on the back it says product of Burgundy France and no grape is mentioned). We had to get on this emergency video to talk about this so we did not forget what we wanted to show you. We’ll show a picture of France and the location of the cool climate region Chablis. Due to its cooler climate, the acidity should still be high but this wine is mellow and chill. The acidity will drop as the grape sits on the wine while the alcohol and fruit sweetness rises. The fruit sweetness is why Napa wines are so popular. The grapes sit on the vine longer due to the longer, warmer growing season. Burgundy grows Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (so this white should be easy to pick out). Gamay and Aligote are grown in Beajolais Burgundy France and Bouzeron respectively which are southern Burgundy so this wine being from northern Burgundy in Chablis, makes this a stainless steel, medium acidity, minerality, peach, and slightly citrusy Chardonnay. We have developed an app or tool that will help you identify this wine quickly. We present parts of that here in how you can see which wines are in which regions, what the wine tasting notes or taste profiles are, what food pairs with that wine and viticulture notes. The point of this video is that if you understand where a wine is from or what is on a label when the grape is not listed, you can find and purchase wines that will blow you away and get out of the rut of drinking the same wines that cost just about the same price and that can be lesser quality.
