In the “Shopping for Wine with Barron” Video Series, Barron Beltz helps Wine Lovers navigate the often confusing Wine Sections and Wine Displays found in Grocery Stores and Supermarkets in Europe.

In Episode 1, Barron Beltz reveals the secret of finding Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the French Wine Section! The Burgundy/Bourgogne Region of France produces world-renowned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay! In the French Wine Section, look for wines with the name Burgundy or Bourgogne printed on the label. Next, you will notice that most of these wines will have a yellow/gold or red foil capsule, which is typically a sign of the color of the wine inside: Yellow/Gold = Chardonnay; Red = Pinot Noir.

Burgundy/Bourgogne wines that are labeled Chablis will always be Chardonnay. The Chablis Region is the northernmost area of Burgundy/Bourgogne, and the Chardonnay tends to be a brighter and more crisp style than the Chardonnay to the south. This is generally due to the fact that many winemakers in Chablis prefer less or no oak fermentation or oak aging.
