Each year, over 31 billion bottles of wine are mass produced. To fulfill this growing demand, the wine industry uses massive amounts of chemicals to increase the production of grapes.
To give you a sense of scale, in France, viticulture represents only 7% of agricultural land use. Yet, wine growers use 25% of all chemical fertilisers, insecticides, fungicides and pesticides sold to farmers annually. That’s 4 times the total used by controlled agriculture.
To compensate for the inevitable dilution of taste, colouring and natural conservation of the grapes; artificial dyes, flavouring and hundreds of other chemicals will be added to produce a sellable wine.
And finally, to make it even more profitable, other chemicals are used to accelerate the process of fermentation.
So, with no regulations or obligation to clearly state the list of ingredients on the bottle, this is why wine is the most toxic beverage you could consume.
Vino Veritas, rates your wine according to the amount of chemicals used to produce it.
