Hi everyone,

I am a single guy early 30s. I have bought my first house in the UK and I am trying to figure out how to set up the living room. I have no furniture yet, so I am starting from scratch and want to get it right.

I have included a few images to show the living room space, an accurate representation of it that I created with the IKEA room planner, and a rough ground floor plan.

The 3rd image shows the correct measurements of all the walls in the living room area created with the floor planner and the second image is a rough floor plan.

The room is a bit awkward in shape, especially on east side where the wall is not straight.

The north wall is 250 cm with a window. The east side has several inset sections rather than being flat, and there are radiators on both the west and east walls.

I am trying to decide on a sofa first. The one I am considering is a 4 seater 253 cm long and 99 cm deep. The 3 seater sofa in the same range is 193cm.

I am worried the 4 seater might be too big for the space, but at the same time I do not want something that feels too small.

At first I was thinking about getting a chaise sofa, but I am not sure if that is the right choice for this room. I have read that they are not always the best when you have people over. I am now thinking about getting a normal sofa and adding a large footstool so it can work in a similar way but still be flexible.

I am also unsure about where the sofa should go. My initial thought was to place it along the longest wall that is the west wall according to the 1st and 3rd image.

I would really appreciate any advice on how you would approach this space, whether the sofa size sounds reasonable, and what kind of layout you think would work best.
