Got this bottle when we visited the winery in Briones around maybe 2021. Miguel Sr was still around, but the winery was being run by Miguelito and his wife. It was a really special visit and this wine is so beautiful and elegant not only from the memories from our visit while we were still in sort in pandemic mode, but because it’s so well crafted and elegant.

It’s a modern Rioja, but it hasn’t lost its old school soul. You get lovely spices and leather totally integrated with blackcurrant, cocoa powder, violet, raspberry (almost exactly like the raspberry dark chocolate Trü Frü), wet earth. Fine tannins and a m+ acidity.
Though not a baby anymore it’s still very fresh at 8 years old with a obviously long runway ahead. Though it’s at a totally enjoyable spot now. Deep ruby color. About an hour breathing, paired with broiled lamb chops and roast veggies. Lamb and Rioja is a match made in heaven. This is a fine and elevated take on a classic.
