I’ve put a lot of thought and effort into my space but something still feels off? Might be the colors (feels kinda flat) or that I’m just bored with it. A couple things: A) I’m renting, so options are somewhat limited, though I can paint, drill holes, etc. B) the curtains are tied up bc otherwise my cat will eat them lol. I know they’re not cute but I need the option to put them down for TV glare/sun protection. C) the leather foot stool under the window — I simply don’t know where else to put it/don’t have room for it anywhere else in the house.

I was thinking maybe a bigger, more colorful rug / a floating or bracketed shelf above the tv / a hanging plant or light above the white chair. Money is somewhat tight so I’d rather not jump to replacing furniture. TIA!!!

I think a few more plants and maybe a new area rug would spice it up. Your space looks very warm and inviting as is, just needs a little tweak.

  2. You are right. It looks very bland and flat. and the rug is for sure to blame. Look for something that is more distinct. Neutrals are fine, but a starker pattern will serve you here. But there’s something you can do right away that will improve this greatly that won’t even cost you. Move the sofa towards the TV a couple of feet. Rooms typically do not look great with everything pushed against the wall. So move towards the TV. This will allow you to let the curtains out of those knots, which looks kind of bad. When possible, replace the polyester sheers with a real or faux linen curtain, which still lets light in but looks less granny.

I love the wall paper and the parquet floors. I think you need a different rug and the table and two chairs don’t really fit. Could you add a nice credenza in that space? Curtains a new rug would be the game changer.

color, for sure. you can rearrange if you want but i think a different rug is your best idea

I think it’s mostly scale and furniture position.

Everything feels moved against the wall, almost like it was moved for cleaning.

I think a more substantial TV unit with closed storage may help (not necessarily longer, but taller and more solid)

I would pull that cozy chair out of the corner and orient it closer to the little entryway table. Possibly get rid of the entry way table if the TV unit has closed storage that could accolade the drop zone function.

I’m also not a fan of the tied up curtains. It doesnt seem like you use them, so maybe roman blinds that bring some fabric and texture in but are more practical
