Pride is one of my favorites…especiallybecause he was a dentist…. I didn't like their merlot while I was there last year though. Maybe I didn't have 2023? Andersons conn valley had an absolute stellar one …super limited edition by the winemaker. But it was 500 bux…oof.

I’ve had nearly every vintage of Shafer One Point Five, and its predecessor Cabernet Sauvignon, going back to the mid 1980’s, and some have been aged long-term (20+) years. I have never been disappointed 😋, apart from the rising cost😢. I quit buying every vintage once retail hit $100, but with everything in life similarly inflated, it’s still fairly priced for what it is, IMO.
So happy that you did a little video on Mariad. This is my favorite wine. I bought 36 bottles after my tasting 12 of which was the doctor Crane Elysian.
I really do think this might be one of the best wineries in Napa. I like to tell people that I compare it to hundred acre, which is another one of our favorites but for a fraction of the price.

I love this topics John. As I have told you several times, I am backing up from unjustified extremely expensive Napa wines. I have bought many VHR, Myriads, Melka, Realm, etc over the years, but many wines increased their prices x2 in 5 years and thats is simply unjustifiable. This 2023 super vintage I skipped VHR and several others because I was expecting some discounts, free shipping, something anything…and no, they continue to think that sky is the limit. Realm has a fantastic idea and had a sale for The Bard, so I loaded up with them. Also I am buying in the secondary market past vintages as they are much more affordable. For example Blankiet Rive Droite ( my fav merlot ) I got 6 bottles of the 2016 for $150 each and the 2023 is north of $270. Bevan Ontogeny used to be $100 and suddenly is now $125, no thanks! My money has been going to Bordeaux , Argentina, and Spanish wines for the last 2 or 3 years. I am mad and tired of seeing that the entry level good cab is now $200 in Napa while I can get incredible wines from Paulliac, Margaux, etc for $100 including many with 98+ points form all critics. Sorry about my rant, but I am sure some winemakers see your channel and I want to say loud and clear to them to stop wild price increases ( Myriad is the #1 in that list, Elysian was $190 5 years ago and today is $330 !). Well…..I said it. Now back to the bbq!
Excellent video and glad you included merlot too. You should do a video on this variety to help it boost to where it belongs 😊. I love Napa wines but I believe it is an overpriced region, even more than Bourgogne
