  1. If anyone's more curious about how crazy the American school lunch program can get, i recommend checking out food theory, they have a whole video on school lunches that references this same law!

  2. Actually, almost everything involved in the making of french fries and ketchup are vegetables (in the sense of being derived from plants). Potatoes? Vegetable. Oil? Usually, it's a vegetable oil. Tomato? Vegetable. Sugar? Vegetable derived. Vinegar? Usually made from vegetables too.

  3. I mean hey, when you deep fry a piece of broccoli it’s technically still a vegetable so, they’re not necessarily wrong.

  4. I think the biggest reason French Fries can't be a vegetable is that french fries are a dish. A dish cannot be a vegetable. Ex. A Salad is not a vegetable, it is made of vegetables, in the same way French Fries are not a vegetable, it is made of a vegetable. Fried cabbage is not a vegetable, it is made of a vegetable, and much like fries, you cannot simply disassemble them into vegetables like you can a salad.

  5. I believe that french fries should be considered a carb like bread on school lunches and ketchup should be treated like mayo or mustard a condiment

  6. If you think this is absurd, in 2011 Congress classified Pizza as a vegetable because of the tomato sauce. All just to get around new health regulations on school lunches.

  7. They are a vegetable, they are made of an edible part of a plant that is not a fruit, that is clearly a vegetable. And it's a pretty nutritious one for that matter, potatoes are pretty good for you if you don't cover them in hectoliters of oil and half a kilo of salt. Especially sweet potatoes, but regular ones are still good.

  8. They’re not wrong, they just made the mistake of assuming that all vegetables in all forms of preperation are healthy

  9. Ok? They literally are vegetables. Being a vegetable doesn’t automatically make them healthy but acting incredulous that they are classified as what they literally are is just goofy. If you slather carrots in grease and salt they wont be healthy either, but they’ll still be a vegetable.

  10. Btw salads don't need any vegetables in them. Ever heard of chicken or tuna salad? Even if you say "well they still have celery" jello salads have no vegetables either

  11. Actually you don’t even need the ketchup! Since salad refers to “salted vegetables” French fries are already meeting that definition by themselves 😂

  12. That’s not the reason it’s like that it’s like that because big companies like Tyson lobby the government so they can still sell their frozen bs food
