Somewhere along the way, we were told that elegance belongs only to those with big kitchens, big incomes, and fewer worries… and definitely no traumas or painful pasts. But elegance has never been about money — it’s about wisdom, care, and intention.

#Buydeem, #BuydeemSlowcooker

In this video, I’m showing you how to create a $20 French-inspired dinner that feeds a family of 8:

Julia Child’s Carbonnade à la Flamande (beef & onions braised in beer)

Homemade sourdough rolls

Fresh, handmade pasta

We’re not just cooking — we’re practicing frugal elegance. Along the way, I share little lessons from homemakers around the world:

France – Technique & time transform humble ingredients into something extraordinary

Japan – Mottainai: honor every scrap, waste nothing

Italy – Layer flavors & make pasta from scratch

The American South – Treat the process like ceremony

Scandinavia – Homemade bread feeds the soul

Mexico – Presentation is love made visible

💡 Whether you’re on a tight budget, feeding a large family, or just looking for inspiration to create beauty in your home, this video shows you that elegance is available to everyone — no matter your income, background, or struggles.

If you’re a woman navigating PTSD, ADHD, chronic overwhelm, or feeling invisible in your homemaking, I’ve created trauma-informed courses to help you build rhythms, systems, and a home that feels peaceful, purposeful, and life-giving.

  1. I haven't been feeling well for some time now. Haven't really been watching much of my original YT channel's because I'm doing more research on other things. I've discovered that I have hashimoto's. That in turn has made me dig deep into the rabbit hole of what in the blazes started this huge thyroid problems. It's a lot to take in. The toxic crap we have been introduced to just to make life easier and less of an inconvenience. For starters, I also watched an independent study(watching a lot of independent studies) on parchment paper. The one thing that has made life easier when it comes to baking and cooking. Well turns out most ALL parchment paper is pretty toxic and we really shouldn't be using it. We get rid of teflon and replaced it with the newest which is the silicone covered cookware that they say is better for us, and come to find out it really isn't. Turns out, nonstick isn't our best choice. Just sticking to good ole fashioned stainless steel or cast iron is the best way to keep toxic crap out of our foods. I've even dove deep into what we feed our animals that in turn feed us. I'm telling ya, this rabbit hole is deep. I just hate that it took me getting this bad to notice and beating myself up for not noticing the signs about 10 yrs ago. I blamed it all on perimenopause. Anyways, I'm now about a week of eating a very strict diet and my inflammation is already getting better. I just thought I'd fill you in on this newest discovery and pray you look into some of this stuff so you can avoid what a lot of us are going through.

Now on to eating like a king and queen on very little money. I'd like to believe that I'm on that path too. We ate some venison growing up, but it wasn't much…AND when i got with my husband 22 yrs ago, well his family ate a lot of venison, it was their main source of meat. I just didn't care for it, so eventually I had to get crafty. Now it is my favorite meat and boy do we do a lot with it. We prepare venison burger, hotdogs, salami, meat sticks, jerky, canned meat, roasts, steaks and so much more. Plus we raise poultry. Laying hens, meat birds and turkeys. We mostly free range but throughout the winter we have to give them feed. And discovering that we need to create our own feed mix to give them because i can't even have soy and i already new our men and boys should NOT be eating soy or any animal's that eat soy. Crap, I can't even eat corn. 😭😭😭
Whole food diet to get this autoimmune disease under control.

P.s. I do NOT like waste either. I think it's because we grew up very poor and waste wasn't allowed. Thankfully my husband is my live in garbage can and that man will eat anything and everything that is left in the fridge. It's going in his lunchbox. 😂😂😂

  2. Thank you for your ministry. I adore your channel. I grew up poor and ate better then. Everything was homemade and intentional.

  3. This was such a beautiful and fun video ❤ thank you for showing how to achieve elegant home making with what we have. It made me inspired to be more intentional about mealtime. Sometimes it’s all I can do to just put a meal together but maybe I’ll enjoy it more with a little music and candles too❤

  4. Lovely meal and that is a really great price for the Bottom Round Roast, we don't see prices like that in Ontario Canada. I've got to try homemade pasta some day. I tried to access your Blog but I am unable to and don't know why, if it's on my end or not? Would really like the recipe for the homemade pasta if you wouldn't mind sharing it? And, oh, how do you clean your pasta machine? Blessing to you and the family.

  5. I just ordered the slow cooker..& tea kettle! Love the colors & the vintage vibe.
Your videos are always so perfect! I love hearing about your grandma & great grandma ( since my family knew them well) ❤️
Ive been burnt out from cooking all these years & raising a family.
But you bring new life into it & inspire me to enjoy my beautiful kitchen again.
Thank you Shayla! 😊 thank you!

  6. My favorite French cookbook is A Kitchen in France by Mimi Thorisson. Her cook book uses simple ,Farmhouse, seasonal ingredients . She also has another cookbook and is on Instagram. Shayla, I really enjoyed this International cooking idea. When I cook this way it makes me feel like I've gone on a trip ….❤ Also, Japanese is phonetical. So it's actually easier to pronounce then most languages.

  7. What a clever idea for this video! The food looked so yummy! I also realized while watching this , that my stress level was melting away with the soothing colours, gentle speech and beautiful spirit of it all! Thank you for being you, beautiful friend! ❤

  8. Thank you for your ministry! “From chaos to calm…” that was me! You’ve helped God transform my mindset and understand my capabilities as a wife, mother, homemaker, homesteader and homeschooler! I’m sharing you with as many people as I’m able to, by sharing your videos and through conversations with other wives and women who need to hear your words of Wisdom and life lessons! Thank you, again! I praise God for bringing you into my life!

  9. Excellent video, sister. No question in my mind you cook BETTER than the restaurants. Coming from the industry, I am aware how much better scratch cooking is from a well skilled mama at home…. SKILLS, girls, build those skills.

  10. Thank you so much for all of your hard work, I appreciate you❤ I don’t buy anything unless I it’s a need, I love your crockpot It is absolutely gorgeous, will your code work for Amazon? I typically don’t buy from influencers because that could become a habit, but I love your channel and I want to help you and I need a crockpot so it’s a win-win😊

  11. Every week I think it couldn't be said or shown any better, but then the next week you do! If women could just have a small piece of your wisdom 19:05 and love for Christ and the home……. wow! I know most all love their homes and families but don't know where to start. That's where your wisdom helps us.
    Ty so much Shayla.

  12. My ears pick up at "French onion soup" hehe. What a cool mixture.
I want some biscuits before they become cold too.

  13. There is a $50 Amazon kitchen aide attachment that is off brand but it makes pasta so easy it has 3 attachments all in one, flatten out, angel hair pasta or fettuccini style cutting, it’s neat and uses your kitchen aide motor, super easy and you can adjust the speed to however fast or slow you want to go
