We went shopping for a new bathroom floor this weekend, it was depressing. How can a store be the size of Costco and have nothing but brown and gray wood floors? What happened to color?
I look back on my childhood… my grandparents house (silent generation) had some wild floors and colors in their house. Linoleum with vibrant patterns, red & black shag carpet… she had a patchwork of colorful carpet for every room in her house. They had colorful kitchen counters, bathroom fixtures and tile… we have white, black, and gray! Why is everything "millennial gray" Who is working in the creative department for these companies? How many shades of brown and gray can there be? Why is everything wood grain? Even the tile is wood grain…
My house was custom-built in 1950 and still original. It is our forever home. I have hardwood floors and the 50s tile in both bathrooms. We are keeping the house orignal or period correct. I can not put a kitchen backsplash on my bathroom floor… or fake wood next to real wood and colorful tile. I just don't get it!
I cant do a tile bathroom floor. I have so much white grout to keep clean in both bathrooms… I just cant do the floors white with more white grout. Tile is also way too high on the threshold… its just not an option. The original floors were a green and white rolled linoleum… it doesnt exist anymore.
My kitchen was easy… I wanted all of the colors so we went with commercial flooring. I'm back to commercial flooring… I found colorful LVT flooring. But I want a design!
It took me two days to figure out how to use chatgpt and this is what I came up with. Its not exactly what I want… Id rather the light green boarder be a bit thinner on each side. Hopefully its good enough to show the installer what Id like. I attached a photo of my kitchen too… I want a colorful house (I know a lot of you guys won't like it.) but its me…
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Rant over…
