I am building a custom-made shelving system above the couch. I love the idea of colours, but I am afraid it will be too much. As a matter of fact, I am afraid that closing the top part with cabinets will make the space much smaller. But somehow I feel the shelves need some kind of finish at the top.
I attached a few models of options I am thinking of.
Obviously, the room is not exactly like in the model, but it is pretty close. The couch is exactly the same, with colorful pillows. Walls are white. I hope to make the wall behind the couch a grey pattern at some point, probably wallpaper. The club table is custom-made out of this wood: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hasslarp-door-brown-patterned-90481783/ with a metal black frame. The lounge chair is the same, but in orange.
The area around the TV is not yet done, as I am looking for a nice piece that doesn't bankrupt me. I love those Finn Juhl pieces and the style. At the moment, there is a simple Ikea Besta in white with grey fronts, getting the oak fronts now until I find a better piece. No shelf yet.
The big painting has to go as it is too big, the one on the left I am not sure yet – will deciede on it when I get the shelves.
