Hi everyone,
We’re moving into a new rental apartment and trying to figure out our window treatment setup.
There’s already a curtain rod installed slightly above the window. We originally wanted ceiling-mounted curtains for a taller look, but there’s a bulkhead on the right side of the ceiling that breaks the line. Since it’s a rental, we’re wondering if we should just keep and use the existing rod instead of changing anything.
I’ve tried generating mockups in AI to see how the window would look with curtain setups, and now I’m even more unsure 😅
Does the current rod placement look okay?
Also, there’s a baseboard heater directly below the window. Can we safely do floor-length curtains? We’re planning to use sheer curtains in the middle and blackout panels on each side (we’ll close the blackout panels in the evening since we’ll be using a projector on the right wall).
Is it okay for curtains to hang in front of a baseboard heater, or should they stop above it?
Would love advice from anyone who’s dealt with bulkheads + heaters in rentals. Thanks!

The height is ok, but it doesn’t look nearly long enough. I always make them 5-6” longer on each side so that when the cream curtains are open they’re not blocking the light of the window. If you look carefully at the picture, it’s not possible for it to look like that. It’s made the curtain rod longer.
I would also recommend shortening the drapes to a few inches above the heaters. No one wants a fire. It’s just not worth it.
