In this video, I share a selection of red Hermitage wines from my own cellar — bottles I’ve followed over time and that show exactly why this appellation continues to produce some of the most compelling Syrah in the world.

Before tasting the wines, I take a brief look at what makes Hermitage so special: its history, its steep southwest-facing slopes, and the key vineyard sites — Les Bessards, Le Méal, L’Hermite, and Les Greffieux — that shape the character of the wines.

🍷 Wines featured from my cellar:
00:00 Intro
00:45 What Makes Hermitage So Special
02:37 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave — Hermitage (2006)
04:00 M. Chapoutier — L’Ermite, Hermitage (2005)
05:11 Paul Jaboulet Aîné — La Chapelle, Hermitage (2011)
06:15 Marc Sorrel — Le Gréal, Hermitage (2015)

For each wine, I look at:
– how the vineyard sites influence structure and style
– how the wines have evolved with time
– How market prices have changed over time
– and why these producers represent some of the most compelling expressions of Hermitage today

Hermitage wines are built to last, but they’re also capable of delivering extraordinary complexity and grace as they mature. Beyond these four producers, many others are well worth exploring, each offering a different interpretation of this remarkable hill.
