My husband and I are renovating our basement into a family room/ play room. There are only two small windows and the ceilings are low with lots of weird vents and things we'll need to sheetrock around.

Since this will be primarily a play room I want to do something more colorful, maybe even color drenching. I'm leaning towards blue walls and green doors, with blue floor trim to try to elongate the walls. Should the ceiling be white or blue? Or a shade of lighter blue? After reading about decorating dark short spaces it seems there's a lot of different opinions on how to make it work. I don't want it to feel clowny or dungeony.

On my main floor I have white walls with lots of plants and boho rugs and I love it. I have a lot of windows and tall ceilings so it's a totally different kind of space. White in a basement can feel sterile and I want it to be more electric and fun. Any advice?

Look up the LRV value of the paint you want to use and make sure it’s on the higher side. Some paint will seem bright but is actually darker in person. For a playroom a color drench will be great but I would keep it lighter. And what is under that chair’s slipcover?!

I’d go mostly with the paint color currently in your living room with accents of the green on the wall. With using the blue as an accent color on the ceiling.
