The room is 12×12, one west facing window, and 2 closets on either side of the door. The wool carpet is hideous. I am having a hard time imagining a good layout. And I would have an easier time decorating if it weren’t for the carpet. And I understand wool carpets are valuable, it’s in good condition but it is just so ugly to me.

When I replace it I will go with a more neutral light shade. But for now, what can I do to make this room feel less dingy and granny. I like shabby chic, cottagecore, I am fond of french provincial furniture. I’m open to other ideas though, just not mcm or rustic. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I’m not really constricted with a decor budget, but replacing the carpet is more of a future project since the whole upstairs is carpeted, I’d like to do it all at once.

I’d put a nice neutral rug over it to break up the pattern

I love the carpet. I would lean into the shabby chic vibes. French countryside

I’d keep everything a cream neutral color, lite furniture and I’d add a soft pink or cream rug under & around the bed. Add soft pinks and green. Like other comment of shabby chic.

I actually think the carpet is awesome, but really it would only be awesome against the clean lines of modern furniture in my book. Wall to wall carpet is a modern invention and you simply can’t do an old-fashioned look with wall-to-wall.

  5. I absolutely adore the carpet. I would likely layer it with a large jute rug and stay with neutral linen for curtains and bedding with a lot of large floral prints with the rug colors in the accessories. I would definitely try to pick up the pink in the rug.

Omg this carpet is incredible! I think this actually makes me love carpet again! Yes, lean way in! Shabby chic, cottage core, or like early 60s (basically still 50s) fanciful, creamy, whimsy. Replacing this would be such a shame. Unless the rest of your house is totally different, like super contemporary, I would absolutely lean tf into this gift!

ALL you see is carpet right now. Once you have the room filled with lovely things, it becomes less of an issue. Work with the secondary colors of the carpet, and furnish with plenty of pale/bright pieces to lighten it up.
