January was feeling especially grey, so I decided to paint the plain doors in my upstairs corridor and turn them into something a bit more cheerful.

I’ve always loved colourful, folksy doors you see in old cottages, and wanted to try something illustrated rather than neutral. It took longer than expected (life + illness), but I’m really happy with how the whole corridor turned out :))).

Happy to answer questions about paint, process, or mistakes I made along the way.
If anyone’s curious to see the full process, it’s linked on my profile.

Cheers!

This is so gorgeous and creative! Normally I hate any post that paints over natural wood doors, but this one is sooooo good. I might steal it with some ugly old doors instead of refinishing them.

How joyful looking! You did an amazing job.

Did you keep the door on its hinges to paint? And what kind of paints did you use? I’d love to do this but I have young kids right now and I’m worried about the fumes/smells if we do the bedrooms. Was that an issue at all?
