After reviewing Café Procope and Brasserie Lipp, two historic landmarks of Saint-Germain, I wanted to step up in price — and hopefully in food quality — and review Lapérouse, one of Paris’s most storied restaurants.
Founded in the 19th century and once awarded three Michelin stars, Lapérouse is known for its private salons, its history and its prestigious reputation. But today, does the experience still justify the prices?
In this review, I walk you through the décor, the menu, the dishes and the overall experience — and compare it with nearby Michelin-starred restaurants like Ze Kitchen Galerie and Relais Louis XIII.

Bonjour. I’m sorry but as soon as I saw the decorations outside I said “nope”. Perhaps they need to rethink their price points. Beautiful decor inside but I’d be there to eat and would not care to pay for the ambiance. Thanks for the heads up. Merci encore.

Pagas por la experiencia y la memorial si trabajas es para algo que quieres si puedes pagarlo❤
Thank you very much indeed for showing us different dining options in Paris – both good and not so good!
I'm watching from Thailand
I had lunch at Lapérouse many years ago in one of those private rooms. I totally agree – the atmosphere is magic and the food is good but I wouldn't say it's outstanding. However, I loved Ze Kitchen Galerie so much, we went twice in a week.
Definitely, a feast for the eyes. Thank you.
It looks like a place to enjoy very nice French cuisine, but at this price I expect two Michelin stars, not just one. And your recommendations for nearby alternatives were on point.
A very fair review, thank you for sharing. Overall value notwithstanding, the interiors are beautiful!
I've always admired the facade of Lapérouse, but have never eaten there. I knew it was a "special occasion" restaurant, and now I think I'll just continue to admire it from afar. Pretty cool interior, tho. Thanks for the info.
Alain, thanks for the review. I’ve always enjoyed Relais Louis XIII.
A helpful hint for your thumbnail caption; don’t give away the conclusion at the beginning. I would pose a question instead. Perhaps ‘Laperousse, does the icon still deliver?’
For prices like that you can walk a few blocks upstream and get real top class
and top viewat Le Tour D'Argent. (The silver tower) At least for lunch. They also have a rotisserie (grill) in the neighbor block with much lower prices.I've driven by many times but never reflected upon it. Thanks for showing, however I think it's over decorated. Too much dark velour and heavy interior, but OK, on a cold dark winter night it can be cosy.
The food better be the best for those prices. 💰
Thanks for this review. I have walked by many times and wondered what it was really like inside. I also really appreciate your focus on price to quality ratio in your reviews. I don’t mind spending a lot of money for a great experience but my income stream is such that how much things cost factors heavily into where I dine! Thanks again for this enjoyable channel.
Love your videos and your honest opinion on different restaurants in Paris. This was a great video. Merci beaucoup.
Great review, as always, I love your channel! Have you ever dined at Taillevent, or Lasserre? I'd be interested in your opinion and comparison? They seem like similar historical places that may be more for tourists than gourmands, I'd like to know?
Lapérouse, you're going into rather expensive territory.
A gorgeous setting inside. Thank you for the review.❤
Thank you for spending so much money to show us where NOT to go. I really appreciate it.
Very good, enjoyable, informative reviews. Just one small point: the 'h' in 'honest' and 'honestly' should be silent. Yes, we do not pronounce it here in dear old Blighty, or even in the good 'ole Yew Ess Ay, or anywhere you can find people pronouncing English correctly. I note that you Ftencl have multiple examples of the silent 'h', as in 'homme', and indeed 'honnête.'

Thank you for the review, when in Paris we were recommended to visit Laperouse for dinner. We decided to go to Ze Kitchen Gallery instead, and spent similar amount with the 5 course dinner which was excellent.
A very fair and accurate review Sir (as always ) … splendid and honest content … Merci beaucoup !
I wonder what the capacity is? Service and decor does not come cheap. When it is all said and done, we have spent twice and much at several restaurants in Paris. Some we will return to again and again, and others we were unimpressed, thought they were overpriced. In a word , we did not value them. We have had the same reaction at low end bistros. At the end of the day, dining, especially at this level is very personal.
As a trained historian, I can't see paying that price for history. I will stick to La Copoule. 😉
Spot on review, and great camera work! In my personal list I have Lapérouse as a 13.25 for the same reasons, while Louis XIII gets a 17.75. With the decor helping Lapérouse score and hurting Louis XIII. I really enjoy seeing your takes on these restaurants and how the differ, if they do, with my own.
agree 100% with this analysis. We went for a special treat/dinner a few years ago. Wowed by the ambience/decor/vibe – food was completely forgettable. Not bad, just forgettable.
You think this is expensive maybe you should try one of the 3 Michelin star restaurants..
