We close on our house next week and I want to color drench walls/paneling and ceiling but maybe leave trim and doors white? Any ideas?

Is the paneling in decent shape? I think it looks great and has a lot of character, wouldn’t paint it!!

For the love of gods, leave the wood as it is.

Why did you even buy it if you don’t like it? I die inside every time people buy houses like that just to erase all the personality from it.

There will be no houses with character left for future generations.

Go ahead, its your house. This day and age with houses going to corporations, do what you want. Having people tell you ” why did you buy the house” blah blah blah is total BS. Personally I would to the doors and trim in the same color just a different sheen. Stop having people tell you what to do. Its your home.

If you don’t like the character of the existing paneling, have you considered re-sanding and applying a clear water based stain?

I personally would paint it, not white though. Dark sage or dark blue would look great.

You won’t notice the wood so much when you have furniture in there against the walls. Maybe just paint the walls an off white to warm it up a bit; paint shops have paint colour kits already picked out that go with wood trim so you can choose from those rather than trying to figure it out with millions of different options. Whatever colour you choose, it’s usually best to have something that goes with all different kinds of furniture and art.

Maybe sand and lighten/bleach all the paneling, but paint the crown molding and the door frames and the doors? I know it’s more work but the paneling looks like it’s decent wood.

Color drenching means the doors, walls, paneling and trim should be the same color.

Personally I don’t love the contrast of the two woods so I would color drench or paint the paneling, trim and doors white dove or similar and then choose a different color for the wall.
