We recently updated our bedroom, mostly to add more storage. What do you think? I have no experience in interior design but I think it looks pretty good! I worked around some items we already had (end tables, lamps, wall art, cedar chest). I guess what I want to know is:

1) What have we done wrong and what is the principle behind it?

2) What have we done right? What good principles here can be applied to other areas of the house?

3) Just curious, what is this style?

Thanks!

I love the layout!!! Just personal preference – would you consider painting the walls a different color? A pale peach would take this to the next level.

Looks cozy, maybe center the rug under the bed.

Why is the rug just floating in the middle of the room? Move it under the bed.

Buying a large rug to go under your bed and dresser area will drastically change the appearance and vibe of your room. I also think it’s a nonnegotiable to have carpet on each side of the bed as it’s soo much better to put your feet on carpet when waking up in the middle of the night or in the morning instead of a cold hard floor. Upgrading your carpet situation alone will transform your room. The tiny carpet creates a disjointed and incomplete feel to the room, and you should always have a large area rug under your bed and main living area of the bedroom. It creates flow and anchors the room.

I am not a fan of all the grey, but it only matters that you like it. Other than that the room could benefit from more wall art; try to source frames that bring in the greens and orange accents or at least find art that incorporates the colours. And I recommend getting a new comforter that creates contrast with all the cool grey tones. The navy comforter isn’t doing anything for the room except drowning it out.

To be honest, this room doesn’t have a defined style other than perhaps millennial grey. It’s not distinctive enough, so really it’s just basic, but that doesn’t have to be negative. Basic can mean uncluttered and clean, so you can stick with that while just upgrading and adding a few more elements.

It looks fine. One suggestion would be regarding the rug placement, normally they’d be centered under the bed, as u/Sufficient_Cattle628 said, but honestly? It looks cute. Love the colors and accent colors, love the layout. It looks both spacious and cozy. I don’t really see anything wrong with it.

My second suggestion would be to bring more of ***you*** into it. Your personal art, (maybe found on a back mountain road at a garage sale or a blown up, but great piece by a 5th grader, or the like), and other signs of your own personal life. Also, maybe some more plants. 😀

EDIT: I just now realized that the walls are grey (I used to not mind it, but that’s so overdone). However, your use of the corals and greens were so well done, I didn’t even notice that part at first. So job EXTRA well done. 😀

The barn door is… Not great. Also, is that a trash can in the corner? Why?
