We will be getting a new front door in the very near future. I had an idea of putting a storm door or something similar almost even with the outer brick wall to make a ‘mud room’ kind of? Still concrete floor and brick walls just literally an outer door to block the wind/snow/rain. The alcove in front of our door is always filled with leaves and I’d love a little place to take off boots in the winter and keep the leaves from piling up in front of the door. Is this a thing or just a terrible idea?

Great idea if you can find a way to make it look organic and not an afterthought. You’d have to do more than put up a wall and tack some hooks to the wall.
For that you would need to frame in the whole area. Are you wanting to do brick or siding? Will you have a recessed floor with a ledge on both sides? Do you have another protected space for your camera? Will you put lights on the outside of the new door, or just keep them in the alcove?
