Lunar New Year is a time for long meals, shared dishes, and bottles that feel right for celebration.
In this video, I walk you through the wines from my cellar that I’ll be choosing from to celebrate Lunar New Year with friends and family — from Champagne to whites, reds, and a final firecracker to end the night. These are wines that work beautifully with food, suit festive gatherings, and reward being shared around the table.
We begin with Champagne, because every New Year deserves a little sparkle, before moving through Riesling and Viognier — two white grape varieties that pair especially well with Asian cuisine. For reds, I look to Saint-Émilion and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, both versatile, food-friendly styles that handle richness and spice with ease.
To close the evening, I open a truly special bottle: Château d’Yquem 1990, a Year of the Horse wine to mark the occasion.
🍷 Wines featured from my cellar:
00:33 Champagne Bollinger — La Grande Année 2008
02:23 Trimbach — Clos Ste Hune Riesling 2009
03:53 Domaine Georges Vernay — Condrieu Coteau de Vernon 2015
05:29Château La Gaffelière — Saint-Émilion 2010
06:40 Château de Beaucastel — Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2009
07:34 Château d’Yquem — 1990
Along the way, I share why these wines work so well with food, how they’ve evolved with time, and how they were priced when I bought them compared with where they sit today.
