  1. Put in the oven for 3½ hours. That's usually when I will give the recipe a pass.

  2. You can't completely change the recipe and still call it cottage pie. That is not a cottage pie and you have ruined it. There is absolutely no need to brown good meat O2 add red wine to it. Adding egg to the potato means it's no longer mashed potato the only things that should be added to mashed potato are butter and cream.

I was put off cottage pie when it became a part of my mum and dad's regular menu as a kid, we actually stopped having it because I just could not stomach it anymore, despite there being no single ingredient I disliked and would eat everything separately, I just could not handle it. This however basically solves every issue I have with the dish, will definitely be giving it a try at some point!

  4. Why can't I eat this anywhere I live? I'm too daunted to try to make it too because I don't think my local meat butchers sell beef shin?

  6. I call it Shepherd's Pie, and I make mine with left over pot roast and roasted potatoes. I put the au jus (which contains wine) in it as well. Everybody loves it!
