This suggestion was a cracker. We headed up to Edgworth to visit The Spread Eagle by McLeod 9 — a village pub that’s quietly becoming one of Greater Manchester’s most exciting dining spots. Chef Patron Joe McLeod, who cut his teeth at places like Northcote and Michelin-starred Bybrook in the Cotswolds, is serving modern British dishes with French finesse, all while keeping one foot firmly in pub-grub nostalgia.
Alongside him is GM Jenny Cruickshanks, who once taught Joe at catering college before being tempted back into the industry to run his front of house. Together they’ve created a warm, polished, genuinely welcoming space where the food does the talking — from a next-level scotch egg to that now-famous elevated egg and chips.
Rooted in local produce, crafted with serious technique and served with heart, The Spread Eagle is quickly becoming a must-visit for anyone who loves proper food done brilliantly.
