In this in-depth episode, I explore how Chef Ulrik Jepsen and restaurateur Mia Kondrup have created a restaurant that feels more like Paris than Scandinavia — from white tablecloths and silver cutlery to a Champagne trolley that rivals the best restaurants in France.
Located in the elegant Frogner area of Oslo, A’Làise is quietly ambitious. Some guests even claim the food here reaches a level comparable to three Michelin-star restaurants. In this video, I put that claim to the test.
You’ll follow the entire journey course by course:
• Hand-dived Norwegian scallops, Skagenrøre and refined French snacks
• A deeply layered French onion soup
• Caviar with Champagne beurre blanc ice cream
• Perfectly poached halibut, monkfish en croûte and Norwegian seafood at its finest
• Exceptional bread and butter service with fresh truffle
• A classic French cheese trolley
• Elegant desserts paired with aged Chenin Blanc and German Riesling
The wine pairing is a major highlight, featuring an outstanding selection of Champagne, Burgundy Pinot Noir, Loire Valley Chenin Blanc, German Spätburgunder and rare dessert wines — all carefully matched to each course.
I finish the episode by rating Restaurant A’Làise using my Tastebud 100-point scale, evaluating:

🏆 Final score: 94/100 — placing A’Làise among the very best one-star Michelin restaurants in Norway.
If you’re passionate about Michelin-starred restaurants, French fine dining, luxury wine pairings and world-class culinary experiences, this episode is for you.
👉 Watch until the end to see how A’Làise compares to Oslo’s three-star restaurant Maaemo — and where it lands on my all-time Tastebud ranking list.

Stunning restaurant and easily one of the best in Oslo 👌
It is not the 19th, but I still enjoyed it a lot. A fitting end to this great year.
