Julia Child brought French food to America with flair and laughter. Delia Smith taught Britain to master the basics with calm precision. Both shaped the way their countries eat — but in completely different ways.

In this video I compare Julia and Delia side by side: their TV styles, their cultural impact, and even their recipes. To show the difference in philosophy, I cook boeuf bourguignon twice — Julia’s classic, long-form version, and Delia’s streamlined, shortcut version for busy cooks.

  1. Great video, Gary! Great tribute to them both. I'm only familiar with Julia Child (and genuinely truly idolize her). I've made her boeuf bourguignon before. It's delicious but involved. I'll have to try Delia's for a weeknight meal sometime!

  2. Love this! Interesting to know about the historical context they were in side by side like that. I still poach eggs ‘Delia style ‘ and her red cabbage braise is amazing, even when I do my own cheat in the Instant Pot. Thanks for a great video
