  1. Sounds like a challenge. But cooking is not exact measurements or time's its the cooks interpretation of the dish. A recipe is what you make of it.

Thank you so much for celebrating and sharing the history of things in the “women’s realm” and for holding up Hannah Glass as being as important and influential as all the male figures you named from this time. People back then may not have believed a woman could have written that book, but the same basic attitudes prevail strongly now, even if sometimes subconsciously.

  3. Changed the USA you mean. She was obviously very relevant in the period pre revolutionary USA, but was only really relevant to English speaking nations pre 1770 (the time of her departure), meaning Britain, Wales, a small proportion of Ireland, a few isolated colonies, and the 13 colonies of the future USA

  4. Here's a business idea. Go through this cookbook and update it to a modern cookbook. Since y'all have done a lot of the recipes in here, I'm sure y'all would have a good idea on how to do that.

  5. Hannah was like a female Thomas Paine: an intelligent, hardworking person who feet behind a literary legacy but got screwed in the end by the social system she lived in.

  6. I'm 76 and began my beginning days of cooking referencing the "Betty Crocker'' cook book for nearly everything I prepared. I reckon she was my generation's Hannah Glasse.😀

  7. I wear my spr777 every day. I work construction and used to work auto salvage. I can wear it at work or at a wedding. I love it.

  9. I wonder how Hannah Glasse would feel if she knew she had the most famous cookbook of the time period, and 250-300 years later, people are still reading it and still cooking from it. Would the thought have made her difficult life a little bit better?

  10. When the cauliflower recipe called for gravy, is that a gravy in the modern sense of it (as in broth thickened with flour) or is it more similar to just a broth?

  13. I have always felt I should have been born in the past. I was born in 1971. I felt it was too late even then!! Watching you all makes me feel so good. Thank you. I wish I was there.

  14. The lack of direction, I think, would have been common in cookery books of the time because young girls were taught from the time they were small. They would have learned by helping their mother cook.
