Chef Thom Bateman is a self-taught British chef known for his bold, flavour-driven modern British cuisine and his rise from social media sensation to acclaimed restaurateur. Born on February 3, 1986, in Stoke-on-Trent, he became a head chef at just 18 despite having no formal culinary training. After stepping away from the industry in his early 20s due to mental health challenges, he spent a decade working in his family’s agricultural business before reigniting his passion for food in 2019 through a social media blog called “bbox food.” His cooking videos quickly gained traction, especially on TikTok, where he amassed over 2 million followers and won Social Media Influencer of the Year in 2021. In 2020, he opened his first fine dining restaurant, The Flintlock at Cheddleton, which went on to earn 3 AA Rosettes and a place in the Michelin Guide. In 2025, he launched Après by Thom Bateman, an exclusive 16-seat tasting menu restaurant above The Flintlock. Thom has appeared twice on the BBC’s Great British Menu, showcasing his creativity and storytelling through food. Known for his hands-on approach and connection with diners, he continues to evolve his culinary journey while inspiring millions through social media and his unique cooking style.
