This is my second time in trying this wine, a new vintage though (15). On first impression, I enjoyed this vintage better. I like how the perfumed notes are there in harmony with the alcohol. Giving it some time to settle in the glass and moving on in… giving some time for that fruit to shine forth.
Gulliame Gonnet grows wines in the region of Chateneuf du Pape, in the Southern Rhone, France.
This wine is his Gigondas GSM – La Mentor.
Night one It’s incredibly easy drinking, with lots of lovely nuances that keep showing themselves from sip to sip.
Dark fruits and dried herbs, soft tannins and well toned down acidity. This is pleasant drinking and considering I just ate lamb saag, this really works nicely. Chilled down this is a wine I like to drink with good conversation. No fuss and food friendly. Not overly complex just really quite pleasurable.
Black raspberries, black olives and thyme, big on the front with some acid to follow, nice and savoury.
The next day – A completely different wine upfront and a new flavour profile.
Plenty of pink musk on the nose and roses. It is still savoury on the palate with black olives and dried herbs.
Plush on the plate with drying tannins on the finish.
So today’s pairing is by Zapp from their Zapp II album, the track is – Playin’ Kinda Rough 82’ Release.
