Mussels are not typical french but Belgium. And fries are Belgium to and not french
Andouillette is… an acquired taste. They're are rarely seen outside France, are made from the pig's colon and have, shall we say, a strong, distinctive odour as a result. They also have a tendency to explode somewhat when cut. I'd give them a pass for your first French cuisine experiment.
Made the mistake of watching this while eating dinner. By the time you reached the coq au vin, I didn't want to eat any more of my basic boring meal 🤣
Guess I'll be a bit more adventurous with my meals this coming week!
AI Overview
The French often refer to the British as "les Rosbifs", which translates to "roast beefs". This nickname is a playful jab at the English tradition of cooking and eating roast beef, and particularly refers to the English folk song "The Roast Beef of Old England". While it can be construed as mildly insulting or funny, it's not generally a term meant to cause serious offense.
4:30 Looks very good but is only to filling a hole in one tooth😁
Sometimes i was in Paris, go on Montmatre and taste any wine. Yor will have a funny evening and a very good night😍. Some people dont like to speak german or english. I said i will come back on chaines an then the they was friendly. It works😁
The frenchies seem very keen on potatoes, but you'll find a lot more other veg in France! Apart from moules frites, all the dishes they mention usually also include carrots. Andouillette? An acquired taste. Life is too short, don't bother trying to acquire that one. Bouillabaisse on the other hand is well worth it.
Also, you must remember they are presenting restaurant dishes. These dishes are traditional, but still restaurant ones: you do not go to the restuarant to eat what you eat at home every day 🙂 We eat a lot of salad, bread, cheese.
Michelin (mee-shu-luh, stress the first and last syllable French ch is always pronounced like sh): it is a tyre company. They started in Clermont-Ferrand in 1889 (middle of France). Being in the tyre business=being interested in people who will buy tyres: trucks, cars, bikes. travelling with early cars meant journeys were long between breakdowns and lack of speed. So these people needed places to eat, sleep, and maps. Thus Michelin created maps (still very popular) and guides for hotels and restaurants. With time, all of these have become iconic. The old Michelin guides sell for quite a bit of money. They now have guides for nearly every country. They are recognisable with their red covers, and the bibendum. Regional guides which are paperback and slimmer are green. Bibendum is a guy made of tyres. I am sure you know it: https://64.media.tumblr.com/cb6ffbe7c3c4d304851b538f2d0e65ee/tumblr_orz6otoN5q1w49lylo5_1280.jpg
I have never had pot au feu with broth served first. But of course, my experience is limited.
I love escargots, which are widely eaten in France, and Portugal.
Now, you need to try couscous. This north African dish has been adopted with unbound enthousiasm by the French. You can make it with fish, beef, lamb, chicken. It is a Muslim dish, so no pork…But nobody will stop you from making it with pork at home. Also, in Brittany you have "far". Savoury far is a kind of pot au feu with buckwheat (buckwheat is made into a dough that is cooked, and served like bread), Sweet far is a kind of cake (buckwheat dough with eggs this time) mixed with prunes. My soul is on sale for the latter.
The Michelin thing has an interesting history, Michelin produces car tyres, they started to produce a restaurant guide to get people to drive more, to sell more tyres
Hm. They seem to have a crush on stews. I don't. So this selection of food dit nor really attract me. Been to France several times and never chose one of those, though they're very famous.
And I confess, if it was only for food I'd never eat out in Paris…… like in any other Capital. Because of the budget. But sure, those who visit Paris have to eat out there 😀
I was missing dishes like Onion Soup, Ratatouille, Quiche Lorraine, and all the awesome sweet stuff like Crème brûlée, Mousse au Chocolat and all the fantastic different tartes. And how about Crepes and all the famout pastries? I can't imagine the French Cuisine without them.
Ok, ok! With French dishes it is like with all other countries: It depends on the region. Each and every region has different standards and favourites.
And the French were big in colonizing back in the days. Their cuisine influenced a lot of the colonized countries, like the "Creole kitchen" is a mix of French and Carribean recipes.
That all said: I guess nobody can cover the kitchen of a certain country in only one video. And in the end, food is always just "a matter of taste". (Especially for such a picky person like me, haha).
