STORYLINE:
The 2022 Beaujolais Nouveau is out.
In France, the first bottles of this young fruity wine were uncorked just after midnight by tradition, as always, on the third Thursday of November.
It is another year and another vintage of a celebration the world over that blends an easy-to-drink-no-fuss wine with a powerful marketing campaign.
Au Pied de Cochon or At the Pigs’ Feet in English, the all-night Parisian brasserie that opened in 1947, has become a well-known spot to celebrate the ritualistic annual uncorking of Beaujolais Nouveau at midnight.
Assistant Director Rodrigue Guillet rang in this year’s vintage to an eager clientele.
Patrick Quesada makes it a point to be among the first to drink this year’s vintage and he wasn’t disappointed.
American couple Catrina Debord and Miguel Calderon are visiting Paris from Chicago. They are happy to be soaking up the rich atmosphere.
Winemaker Gilles Gelin supplies this particular Beaujolais Nouveau to the restaurant and makes some sixty thousand bottles this year.
Climate change has caused drought and earlier harvests in the Beaujolais region, he said.
