French Bread:
Servings: Makes 2 baguettes
Prep Time: 2 1/2 hours (including rising)
Cook Time: 20-30 minutes
Ingredients:
• 6-7 cups bread flour
• 2 TBS of butter
• 2 TSP of Salt
• 2 TBS of Honey or Sugar
• 2 1/2 cup water (boiling)
• 1 Egg
• 1 packet of Instant Yeast
• Italian Seasoning (Recommended but optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Seasonings:
In a large mixing bowl, combine Butter, Salt, Honey/Sugar and Italian Seasoning. Whisk until Salt, Honey/Sugar, and Butter is dissolved. Wait 5 mins. to cool.
2. Incorporate Flour:
Once mixture has cooled. Add 6-7 Cups of Flour and Yeast. Knead until flour comes unstuck from bowl.
3. Rise p1 :
Once kneading is completed. Transfer to a clean oiled bowl, and let rise for 1-2 hours or until the dough has x2 in size. Store in a warm place.
4. Roll out:
When the dough has x2 in size, spread flour onto the counter. Split the dough in half and form them into rectangles. Sprinkle flour on your rolling pin and a little on the top of the dough. Roll out the dough.
5. Roll up:
Once the dough is rolled out, roll up the dough (almost like a cinnamon roll). Pinch together the flaps of the dough and pinch and tuck the ends.
6. Rise p2:
Once the dough is into bread form. Score the bread, and apply egg wash. Let it rise for another hour. Store in a warm place.
7. Preheat:
While the dough is rising, preheat the oven to 375° F (190°C).
8. Bake the Bread:
Once the bread has risen, put the bread into the oven. Bake for 20-30 minutes. You can also sprinkle flour on the bread for an “aesthetic” or “rustic” look. It’s called “dusting”
*FOR CRISPY CRUST* Place a pan of Boiling water on the bottom rack and throw in a couple of ice cubes for steam to form and allow the bread to crisp.
9. Ready to serve:
Remove the bread from the oven. You should let it rest, but who can resist slicing into it immediately. Serve with butter, spaghetti, etc. etc.

*WARNING* While raw flour itself isn’t inherently bad to sprinkle on bread, it’s generally recommended to avoid consuming or leaving it on baked goods. Best to do it right before baking
