US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose tariffs of 200 percent on European wine, Champagne and spirits as his trade war with the EU escalates. France is particularly vulnerable to the tariffs and the country’s economy minister has said he would negotiate. Trump has already imposed new duties on European steel and aluminum.

  1. Finally some good news, maybe this will teach those pseudo intelectual finance guys that we should invest more on our internal markets, meaning mainly the EU but also Europe as a whole, plenty of consumers here already, more than the US.

Also, by not exporting to them, we can keep them here and it'll also lower their prices as a whole, not to mention that plenty of countries export the better products and import equivalent but inferior products, thus internal quality should increase. This is because better quality products are sold to the highest bidder while we import cheaper products for our masses.

Also, this causes another problem, because even though we have super restrictive laws that affect the quality of imported good, the governments also ignore and impose those regulations based on convenience, there's plenty of services, for example, that don't respect EU regulation and still freely operate in the EU, for example, social media and Google. Instead of having our own versions, our politicians just let them run free for diplomatic reasons and because it's convinient for them or they simply don't understand the tech.

But even that is running it's course, now Trump is even ignoring that while we fined them, they've been always breaking our laws and are still being allowed to operate, which they shouldn't, which other private companies get to constantly break laws and not get shut down?

2:55 False equivalency, reciprical tariffs have been made based on value, not product itself, I'm talking about the EU here. Meaning that we'd do those 4.5 to 4.7 or so billion euro in other products or services, not in alcohol.

  2. I do think the Americans that actually do drink French wines and Champagnes are generally wealthy and do not think twice about paying more. MAGAs drink cheap American box wines that taste horrible, they have neither the class, taste or finances to buy European quality stuff aka wines.

  3. You guys should have your country make a special hotel/golf/country club tax on any majority American-owned businesses in your country.

  4. 200% on Windows licenses and spend the money earned with it on Open Source projects. This will make Europe's IT landscape more independent, will be cheaper in the long term. And the whole world would benefit.

  5. The USA has ignored European tariffs for years, which has only led to an unbalanced trade deficit. The most fair trade is reciprocating tariffs or none at all. Unbalanced tariffs lead to one side having a trade deficit, and trade deficits lead to inflation. The USA is seeking trade balance and the elimination of deficits.

  6. Canada imports $1.97 billion usd of wine, Top 5 French italian American Australian Spanish. We've dropped the $421 million of American wine from the shelves. Fill them up with more European wines.

  7. I think negotiating is the wrong way to go! What the dumbest president in American History doesn't understand is, that he's driving his small business owners into bankruptcy.

  8. The EU's reaction to U.S. tariffs seems overblown, considering they've long benefited from their own protectionist policies. For decades, the EU has imposed trade barriers, subsidies, and regulatory hurdles that have put American businesses at a disadvantage. Now that the U.S. is pushing back to level the playing field, the EU’s outrage feels more like frustration at losing an unfair advantage rather than genuine concern for free trade. Instead of getting their knickers in a knot, perhaps they should reflect on their own trade practices and negotiate a fairer deal for both sides.

  9. Bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines has cost EU a lot more than the tariffs on wine. Does EU care of know? 😂

  10. We Americans cannot end the Trump regime by ourselves. Trump can ignore all our anti-Trump demonstrations and our indignant phone calls to our elected Representatives. We need outside help to TOTALLY crash the US economy so as to turn all MAGA-hatters into enraged ex-MAGA-hatters. We need a total economic meltdown, and we need it NOW.  We need the EU, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia and others to shut down ALL American imports. THE ECONOMIC EQUIVALENT OF D-DAY. How long do you think that this mega-shutdown would have to last? Two months? Maybe three? Shut down all US imports for the sake of everyone on the planet. STOMP THE TRUMP REGIME FLAT. The inflation alone would be devastating for me personally, but I'll willingly eat nothing but beans and rice if that's what it takes to crush Trump (and MAGA)…IMMEDIATELY. We must be rid of the Trump regime by MID-SUMMER AT THE LATEST.
The economic equivalent of D-Day…you owe us.

  11. Why not just level the playing field entirely and not have any tariffs at all, in either direction? I personally buy products from England, Austria, Ukraine and Italy that I can think of just off the top of my head. I’m not really sure whether there were tariffs on any of those products or not 🤷‍♂️

  12. Never vote for a diet coke drinker. Its fair to say, Europe usually does a nice line in hypocrisy – tariffs on Chinese cars, for example.

  13. EU is playing Trump's game now, which is exactly what he wants. Trump believes that He can play separately this game with EU, Canada and so on and win.

The problem is He might be right.

This game is so called "Dynamic Game with full information (Game Theory)".

There are only two possible possibly winning strategies for EU:

    1) Change of the player – Free United World agains the US (However this will bring a lot of pain, but we can win If played right)

    2) Break the game – free World will scare Trump off this game. Free World will hit the US where they will really feel and stop this madness.

  14. The sheep spend all their lives fearing the wolf, only to be devoured by the shepherd.

  15. So Europe responding to U.S. tariffs is “disrespectful”—but when Trump slaps tariffs on allies, that’s just “leveling the playing field”? The hypocrisy is staggering.

Let’s be clear: The idea that Europe has been “ripping off” the U.S. for years is pure fiction.
    • The EU and U.S. have similar overall tariff levels (EU ~5%, U.S. ~3.4%), and both protect key industries.
    • Yes, the EU has a 10% car tariff, but the U.S. hits European trucks with 25% tariffs—so who’s really unfair?
    • The U.S. runs a massive trade surplus in services with the EU, balancing out the goods deficit.

And if we’re talking about actual disrespect, let’s put things in perspective:
    • Trump didn’t just threaten tariffs—he tried to buy Greenland from Denmark like it was a piece of real estate.
    • When Denmark refused, he canceled a state visit and insulted the Danish Prime Minister.
    • So spare us the outrage over Europe defending its industries, when Trump didn’t even respect Denmark’s national sovereignty.

Europe isn’t “disrespecting” the U.S.—it’s refusing to be bullied.
