In July 1758, the bloodiest battle in the French and Indian War took place on the border between New York and New France. There was gallantry and heroism on both sides; the French garrison was fighting against overwhelming odds of 6 to 1, while British attackers charged fearlessly at the enemy breastworks. The Battle of Carillon (also known as Ticonderoga) was arguably General Marquis de Montcalm’s greatest victory in the conflict.
