Cast Iron Skillet French Toast Casserole – An Easy & Delightfully Delicious Breakfast

2 tablespoon softened butter
6 tablespoons brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Pinch of salt
10 slices Hawaiian bread
6 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup roughly chopped Pecans
4 eggs
1 2/3 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar – for dusting

Smear 1 tablespoon butter into the bottom of a 10-inch cast iron skillet; set aside.

Create sugar mixture (brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt) in a small bowl and blend using a fork until well combined.

Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar mixture evenly over the bottom of your cast iron skillet. Set aside.

Using a bread knife, cut bread on an angle to create triangles.

Layer bread into a single layer in a skillet until the bottom is completely covered.

Brush top of each bread piece with about 2 tablespoons melted butter and then sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar mixture, and nuts over bread slices.

Repeat layers until all bread is used.
In a batter bowl, add eggs, milk, and vanilla extract; whisk to incorporate all ingredients. Gradually pour over the bread. Top with remaining nuts.

Bake uncovered at 350 for 30 minutes rotating the skillet after 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and dollop top with remaining 1-tablespoon of butter. Cool for at least 15 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy! ☺️
Don’t forget to wrap the cast iron handle for protection-it will be very hot for quite a while.

  1. This looks delicious. I have made French toast casseroles in the past but they were laden with sugar. This has very minimal sugar and I appreciate that. Definitely going to try it. Thank you! 🙏❤️

  2. I have my Mom’s set of cast iron skillets. They range in sizes from 6” to 12”; 4 in the set. I use them all the time. Love them. We even purchased a larger one that says it’s great for camping. It’s about 15” in diameter.
