About us,

We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.

The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.

Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

  1. Here’s your text with some corrections for spelling and grammar:

Hi guys! Just a few tips:
    – The treatment of furniture for woodworm is not needed, since the woodworm larvae will dry out and die in a normal temperature living room.

    – When doing upholstery, you hit the webbing with the side of the hammer while stretching it out with the stretcher. This way, the fibers give a bit, and the webbing will stay tight for longer.

    – Fold the webbing in on itself so it's actually in three layers when you nail it. This way, you lock the ends of the webbing and divide the pressure from the nails over a bigger area. I was taught to staple the webbing when it's tight, fold it in on itself, and then nail it with 3-5 nails, depending on the size of the webbing.

    – The last thing is that, you are placing the webbing way too close and using about double the amount of webbing needed for each chair. Place the webbing so you have two interceting at each point there is a spring.

Kind regards from a Danish furniture conservator 😉

  2. I was so hoping you would have shown the hand tying of the springs. I wanted to see how that was accomplished. It would have been interesting and educational. Excellent skills.

  3. I wouldn't reuse the horse hair! personally I thinks it's safer from a fire retardant point of view , to use modern materials

  4. I love that you added the gold guild to the detailed areas. I can't wait to see the fabric you pick! You do such a wonderful job on everything!

  5. Just giving the furniture a good clean makes the chairs and sofa look amazing. I will be interested in seeing the fabric you choose for them.

  6. Terry you are so thorough with everything you do, a perfectionist just like me! 😂 Love what you've done so far, now looking forward to seeing what you choose for the fabric! My goodness this set is just gorgeous, so in love with it! Always great teamwork! ❤

  7. Just wondering if it would be better cleaning first then treating, so you’re not removing the woodworm treatment? 🤔

  8. What an amazing project- you did a gorgeous job.
PS Could you tell us what the last, moving piece of music was- I couldn’t find it.
    Many thanks.

  9. I know I'm late, but I never miss an episode. I've done one chair ages ago ( not near as the scale you have done) and it was my first and last piece! It's totally NOT my game😂 You have done amazing work Terry!!! You also have become a gold leaf master❤😊

  10. Terry your talent just amazes me. You are definitely what is called a Renaissance Man! I so love that piece of music you play in some of your segments. I didn’t see any reference to it in your notes. Can you tell me what it is? Thanks!

  11. I've seen some of the other furniture you restored and I can't wait to see the fabric you choose for this set. I love the gold leaf accents.

  12. I think the the word resurrection is better for those furniture than restoration 😄 so beautiful and what a great job 👍❤

  13. Upholstery is my thing and I was delighted to see you re-upholsyered a French chair using French techniques. French webbing is much wider than English webbing and the French always close weave the webbing which you have done!! Well done!!

  14. Your all so smart watching the videos make my heart want to give you all hugs .I think of all the homes crying for love with all that history and people needing homes this is a responsible for the old girl her second life for a hundred years or longer all my love sweet family Carolina lady

  15. I definitely couldn't work with that horsehair stuff. I feel icky just looking at it…..but lovely job
To coin your favourite phrase 'absolutely amazing'.

  16. Okay. Newbie here. Been watching your channel for a long time. I'm an American who purchased a 16th century property. And also purchased a lot of furniture recently.

Now you have me nervous. I just purchased a lot of furniture, of course it's wood. I didn't treat it for wood worm. And I'm back in the US for 8 weeks…. What are the odds? I might have a problem? Oh good grief…..

  17. Well done Terry what an amazing job you have done, the chair looks wonderful and you have inspired me to have a go at some upholstery.
I can't wait to see what fabric you will pick and hope you stick with the turquoise theme.

  18. That chair looks fantastic. Of course, it had good bones! Having watched you do the work, I won't overlook a "broken" chair that has good bones should I find one I love! You're not only doing a wonderful job restoring furniture and the Chateau, you're also a wonderful teacher!

  19. That was an absolute master class Terry, loved it. I can’t taste because of long COVID,but, I have an incredible sense of smell, & when you opened up the chair I could smell the musty/ foistiness of it; I could also smell the hessian bands, weird. Love your posts, particularly the furniture renovations. Love from a Geordie lass. X

  20. I have waited for years to see you transform a piece of upholstered furniture from the bottom up! Absolutely loved this video. Can't wait to see how it looks with the fabric!
